A fierce firefight took place overnight Thursday in the central part of Nalchik city on the Metchnikov Street near the Central Market and bus station.

 

The apostates said that the battle began approximately at 1:30 am local time. According to infidels 4 Mujahideen were holed up in an apartment building surrounded by the gang formations of MIA and FSB.

 

In the morning the infidels declared that in a course of action, which lasted until dawn, all 4 Mujahideen martyred.

 

It has been declared that the Emir of the Combined Province of Kabarda, Balkaria and Karachay (Anzor Astemirov) could be among the dead. However, later it was stated that Emir Sayfullah had not been in the apartment.

Detention Center Chief Killed In Russia's North Caucasus

NALCHIK, Kabardino-Balkaria -- The head of a detention center in Nalchik, the capital of Russia's Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, has been assassinated, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports. 

Attackers shot dead Vitaly Bogatyrev as he returned home from work on May 14.

There are currently 58 people accused of taking part in a 2005 rebel attack in Nalchik being held in the detention center. 

Officials said that Bogatyrev's murder could be related to his professional activities. 

Kabardino-Balkaria's Supreme Court has begun holding hearings on the cases of the detainees and investigators from Russia's Prosecutor-General's Office in Moscow arrived in Nalchik on May 15. 

Kabardino-Balkaria is a republic of more than 900,000 people in the volatile North Caucasus.

Process on Nalchik attack takes break till June 1

Today, the session of the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria has made a decision to delay the next session of the trial on the criminal case about the attack on Nalchik on October 13, 2005, till June 1, 2009. The break is caused by the state of health of three defendants, who need hospitalization, and also with the need for the defendants to get additionally acquainted with the materials of the criminal case.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that yesterday, on May 6, defendant Sergey Kaziev could not get to the session, therefore, the court session was postponed.

Today, the court received Kaziev's petition, in which he asked to hospitalize him for treatment to the city infectious hospital. However, in the opinion of Galina Gorislavskaya, chair of the court, the submitted medical documents were not enough for making a decision. The petition ...
