An official of the Supreme Court of Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria was shot dead by unknown gunmen, local police said on Sunday.
The official was killed on Saturday night when he went out into the street from a private house where he had attended a wedding. The gunmen fired several pistol shots at him. The official died from wounds on the scene of the attack, the police said.
While Chechnya, under the leadership of former-separatist-fighter-turned-Kremlin-ally Ramzan Kadyrov, has seen a marked reduction in militant attacks in recent years, violence has erupted in the neighboring republics of Ingushetia, Dagestan and Kabardino-Balkaria.
