In Kabardino-Balkaria, sons of Shevkhuzhev, killed in special operation, detained

jun 19 2009, 23:40

On June 18, in Dugulubgei village of Kabardino-Balkaria, minor sons were detained of Sultan Shevkhuzhev, 40, a resident of Dugulubgei, who was killed in a special operation on May 28 in Mechnikova Street in Nalchik. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt about it from Sultan's father - Asredin Shevkhuzhev.

According to Asredin, on June 18 at five in the morning 10 person in masks - "some through window, some through door" - rushed into their house. They woke up Muhamed Shevkhuzhev, 16, and took him to the Centre for Fighting Extremism of the MIA of Kabardino-Balkaria. In doing so, they failed to present any public prosecutor's sanction or arrest warrant.

As of 9:30 p.m., the teenager was still at the Centre. According to his grandfather, neither an advocate, nor a teacher, nor any of the relatives were admitted to the boy. All this time his grandfather and mother stood near the Centre hoping that the boy would be released.

In the meantime, as Asredin Shevkhuzhev has reported, he was called from his house in Dugulubgei and told that the local district militiaman had taken away his second grandson - Ahmed Shevkhuzhev, 14, and brought him to the Baksan militia station.

Asredin Shevkhuzhev has applied for help to the Republic's Prosecutor's Office and Public Human Rights Centre (PHRC). As it became known from head of the PHRC Valery Hatazhukov, an answer was received to the oral inquiry of the prosecutor's office about detention of Shevkhuzhev, 16, that Muhamed Shevkhuzhev had not been detained by the Centre. Then, the public prosecutor made a written request.

They have confirmed to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent at the Prosecutor's Office that Shevkhuzhev's application was received and now checked.

When the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent tried to get any comments at the Centre for Fighting Extremism, the person on duty there who presented himself as Saralpov said that the boy was not there.

Asredin Shevkhuzhev said that his grandsons did not live with their father and saw him seldom. They did not know with whom their father communicated, or whether he prayed on not.
