We are welcoming a ‘Dictator’

05 Dec, 2012

RF President Vladimir Putin will be arriving to Turkey tomorrow for meeting with the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council. The goal of $100 billion trade volume is defined by the highest level of bilateral relations in both countries with a nationwide interest. As we get from statements of the governments and the media of both countries, the tension between Turkey and Russia, because of different perceptions of regional foreign policy, is not going to affect the rotation of mutual relations. People of Turkey will likely follow this visit on an agenda based on the analysis of the mutual gains of the two countries, comparisons of leaderships and personalities of Erdogan and Putin. However, today we are gathering and raising our voices in order to welcome a gang leader dressed in a President suit, in a way he deserves and to expose this illegal, inhumane ...

Russia's Anti-Colonial Struggle

31, Oct, 2012

"[Russian president Vladimir] Putin's regime should be regarded as a colonial power," wrote Alfred Koch, Russia's former deputy prime minister under President Boris Yeltsin, on his Facebook page. "All the signs of a colonial regime were there for anyone to see," he noted.

"Thirdly, the regime quite openly and totally ignored all popular demands for self-government on the grounds that "we higher-ups had a better view" of what was really necessary," Mr Koch pointed out.

"Fourthly, the regime's foreign policy and military gestures were in ...

By Emil Souleimanov (04/04/2012 issue of the CACI Analyst)

In mid-March, a massive redeployment of military personnel from Chechnya to Dagestan took place. According to unofficial sources from Dagestan, up to 20,000-25,000 troops were moved to the neighboring republic. A military column including large amounts of armored fighting vehicles set out from Khankala, a military base to the east of Grozny, to the Karabudakhkent district of Dagestan on the outskirts of the capital city of Makhachkala. Rationalized by the authorities as another move to improve the deteriorating situation in the Caspian republic, the move has caused serious concern both within and outside Dagestan.

BACKGROUND: Apart from the traditional sense of rivalry and competitiveness among the peoples of the Caucasus, Chechens and Dagestanis share a history of fierce anti-colonial resistance dating back to the end of the 18th century and have faced conflicts ...
