MOSCOW — The military has successfully tested what it described as the world’s most powerful non-nuclear air-delivered bomb, state television reported, the latest show of the nation’s military muscle. Channel One television said the new ordnance, nicknamed the “Father of All Bombs” is four times more powerful than the U.S. “Mother of All Bombs.” “The tests have shown that the new air-delivered ordnance is comparable to a nuclear weapon in its efficiency and capability,” Colonel-General Alexander Rukshin, deputy chief of the military’s General Staff, said in televised remarks late Tuesday. Alexander Drobyshevsky told Itar-Tass. “A military cargo plane was making a routine flight above neutral waters from Chkalovsk in the Kaliningrad region to an airfield in the Tver region. The date and location of the test were not given - western officials said there have, in fact, been others like it - but Russia's ORT First Channel television, citing the bomb's designers, said it was bigger and better than a US mega-bomb tested in 2003. Russia described the weapon as a vacuum bomb, suggesting it fell into a category of weapons designed to create a massive fireball and a huge blast. Baku Says Use Of Radar Station Raises Security Concerns
September 19, 2007 -- A senior Azerbaijani official says joint U.S.-Russian use of a radar station in Azerbaijan would raise security concerns for the country.
Moscow has proposed the United States share use of the station, currently run by Russia, as an alternative to a planned U.S. missile-defense system in Europe.
Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov today said joint use of the Qabala radar station would increase the threat to Azerbaijan.
"Therefore, the issue of security guarantees for Azerbaijan will become increasingly important," he said.
