KC: Examination: In Russia All Signs Of Civilization Decline Are Observed

Examination: in Russia all signs of civilization decline are observed

Publication time: Today at 10:44 Djokhar time

Representatives of Russian elite began to realize that Russia might not be going through the real period of its history. Under current circumstances, most of the Kremlin's actions are absolutely meaningless: continuing Russian occupation of the Caucasus, plans for expansion and aggression against its neighbors, particularly against Ukraine and Georgia, cheap rhetoric and curses against the West and even "reconstruction" of Sayano-Shushenskaya hydropower plant which was destructed by Mujahedeen recently.

Well-known political analyst Stanislav Belkovsky whose opinion is shared by many other Russian political analysts and representatives of Russian ruling class made speech on upcoming collapse of Russia, Belkovskiy points:

- Model of Russian economy has been exhausted. During last 2 decades, Russia and its ruling elite have not been engaging in modernization. The whole model is based on the exploitation of raw materials, exports of oil ...

PRAVDA: South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Kosovo And The Future

South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Kosovo and the future
26.08.2009

One year after Russia’s recognition of the Independence of the Republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, the Caucasus begins to gain a new shape, enjoy more stability and make more sense, while Moscow is welcomed as a friend in its historic sphere of operations. Given the actions and reactions of other powers not so friendly to Moscow, it hardly comes as a surprise.

Climate of peace, finally

One year on, there is finally a climate of peace in the Caucasus. True, there continue to be a handful of agents provocateurs in Chechnya and there continue to be cells of criminals and bandits in Dagestan and Ingushetia, like everywhere else. However, the citizens of Abkhazia and South Ossetia today are more relaxed, feel safer, feel happier, feel at home with their new neighbours who wish to help them develop instead of exterminating them like Saakashvili’s Georgians.

The tremendous effort in ...

Baltics mark anti-Soviet protest

Latvia's President Valdis Zatlers (arms raised)
ran part of the relay [Reuters]

Tens of thousands of people in the Baltic states have marked the twentieth anniversary of the 'Baltic Way' - when two million people formed a human chain to protest against Soviet rule.

About 50,000 people participated in a relay on Sunday along the original 678km route that runs through Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, organisers said.

The landmark 1989 linking of hands is said to have helped bring an end to Soviet occupation.

Valdis Zatlers, the Latvian president, ran the last leg of the route that finished in Riga, Latvia's capital, a day after the relay began in Tallinn and Vilnius, the respective Estonian and Lithuanian capitals.

"We showed that we could decide our own future," Zatlers said at the Freedom Monument, in the centre of Riga.

More than a quarter of the total population of seven million people participated in the ...

Window on Eurasia: Medvedev Seeks ‘Real Not Cosmetic’ Stability in North Caucasus

Paul Goble

Vienna, August 20 –President Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia must pursue “real not cosmetic” stability in the North Caucasus, an indication of just how much the security situation has deteriorated and how disappointed the Kremlin now is in the claims by his predecessor Vladimir Putin that the situation there has been improving.
But Medvedev’s five point program, which he presented to the leaders of Russia’s security services yesterday, does not appear to promise any greater success, let alone to justify his Putinesque statement that “one must not stand on ceremony with the terrorists. They must be liquidated without hesitation” (mk.ru/politics/publications/336877.html).
What Medvedev’s proposals do appear to presage, however, is a further expansion of Russian military actions there, a greater willingness to dismiss local officials possibly with the installation of ethnic Russians in their place, and as a ...

The Role of the Russian Orthodox Church in the North Caucasus

Jamestown Foundation, Publication: Eurasia Daily Monitor Volume: 6 Issue: 162

August 21, 2009

On August 15 the Russian news agency ITAR-TASS reported that "unknown suspects desecrated the Orthodox holy cross in the mountains of Adygeya." The report came from Maikop the capital city of the Republic of Adygeya, located about 40 miles to the north of Sochi, the location for the 2014 Winter Olympics (www.vob.ru, August 20).

ITAR-TASS and numerous Russian outlets underlined that a religious reason was behind the act of vandalism. The article included a comment from the speaker of the Adygeya Orthodox Church Natalia Shevchenko, who said that the wooden cross, had been sawn off and thrown from Thkach, the highest mountain in Adygeya (The Mount of God in Circassian, 2,368 meters).

The cross was installed in ...
