Russian minister dismisses Japan's tough territorial claims 29.07.2005, 18.39 ITURUP, Kurile Islands, July 29 (Itar-Tass) - Russia has no plans of making territorial concessions to Japan or abandoning the Southern Kurile Islands, Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said Friday as he visited the Island of Iturup. The latter is part of the Southern Kurile Range that also includes the islands of Kunashir, Shikotan, and Habomai. The Southern Kuriles went over to Soviet jurisdiction in 1945. Japan has been making claims for them over decades, referring to them as to its “northern territories.” “We’re not considering any territorial concessions and withdrawals from here,” Ivanov said. “Yet we’re ready to hold diplomatic talks – we’ve been holding them for the past 50 or 60 years and are ready to continue them in the spirit of correctness and mutual respect,” he said. “Japan is an important partner for us in trade, science and technology, and we’d like to develop relations ... >> full

Jule, 21, 2005 What keeps the Russian empire? “Russia must be taken under external control” (the Head of External the subcommittee of the information committee of the SDC – Madjlisul Shura of the ChRI Movladi Udugov). The majority of Russians consider their empire to be a decent, secular state, “a place, in which it is time to live”, - there was such an advertising line, from the program application of the party the “Union of Right Forces”. Jule, 09, 2005 Putin's Ideology – an Ideology of Catastrophism It is surprising, how quickly the Russian authority has got used to the resource of accidents. Radio and TV air is filled with information on accidents: about falling of helicopters, about run cars, about fallen houses. Such was not at Brezhnev (and today's regime differs with it from the Brezhnev's one, which was constructed on keeping back of information). The information on accidents has replaced publicity. If to consider, that freedom of speech is measured by presence of the information about blown up, crippled, killed, dismembered – it is such, blossoming of the freedom of speech! As a matter of fact, we have taken it from democracy. In days of democracy Gleb Pavlovskiy was a director of the agency "Post factum" and, standing in jeans overalls, with a pencil behind his ear, constantly filled the society with the information on these accidents. Here there ... >> full
