TALLINN, June 9 (Itar-Tass) - The Estonian parliament on Wednesday examined the draft law on ratification of the Russian-Estonian border agreement in the first reading. A preamble with mentioning the Tartu peace agreement of 1920 was added on the eve of the discussion to the initial draft law proposed by the government. The preamble was added on the initiative of the parliamentary commission for international affairs. According to the commission head, Enn Eesmaa, the necessary addendum should serve as a proof of the fact that the contemporary Estonia dates the beginning of its statehood back to the republic proclaimed in 1918 and for the first time officially recognised in 1920. Russian MP dissatisfied with hasty withdrawal of bases from Georgia 09/06/2005 10:31 TBILISI, June 9 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Georgia should find a civilized tone in their relations, said Gennady Gudkov, member of the State Duma (lower house of the Russian parliament) committee on defense and security. "Their confrontation is playing into the hands of Georgia's opponents in Russia," he said. "Russia is a big country, with vast resources and patience, yet we must not permit the escalation of anti-Georgian sentiments because this is fraught above all with negative consequences for Georgia," Gudkov said in a live television show of the Georgian company Mze. The pressure mounted by the Georgian authorities regarding the timeframe for the withdrawal of Russian military bases "can provoke the escalation of forces in Russia that are advocating the split of Georgia," the Russian deputy said. He said about the situation at the Russian bases in Batumi and Akhalkalaki that ... >> full

BRUSSELS. June 9 (Interfax) - Russia will not resume withdrawing ammunition from Transdniestria until a political solution to the Transdniestria problem is found, said Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov.
"There is an absolute dead end there - in both the direct and metaphorical senses. There is a political dead end there, and if we talk about the withdrawal of weapons, this is impossible to do - it is impossible to send trains there," Ivanov told journalists in Brussels on Thursday.

6.6.2005 13:01 MSK "Boris Nemtsov does the task of imperial Russia" UKRAINE, Kiev. On 3 June the Ukrainian parliament demanded that President Victor Yushchenko sacked Russian politician Boris Nemtsov from his post as President’s Advisor. Member of parliament and national radical Oleg Tyagnibok prepared a letter of address to the President saying that Nemtsov represents interests of the ‘Russian Empire’ and therefore is in no position to advise the head of a sovereign state. The Supreme Rada speaker Vladimir Litvin liked the text of the letter: in the course of the vote in parliament he laughed out loud. Members of Yuliya Timoshenko’s Bloc, the Regions’ Party, Social Democratic Party, Communist Party and Socialist Party actively supported the vote against "Nemtsov’s imperial ambitions." Victor Yushchenko appointed Boris Nemtsov his advisor following ‘orange revolution’. Nemtsov rents a flat in Kiev and MPs will now try to establish whether his rent is paid by the Ukrainian taxpayers. Translated ... >> full
