MOSCOW, June 18 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s President Vladimir Putin had a conference with members of Security Council Saturday, said the presidential press secretary, Aleksei Gromov.
Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, Presidential Administration Chief Dmitry Medvedev, Secretary of the Security Council Igor Ivanov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov, Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev, Director of the Federal Security Service Nikolai Patrushev and Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Lebedev attended the meeting.
Putin and the officials discussed various aspects of Russia’s domestic and foreign policy, Gromov said.

By Nabi Abdullaev Staff Writer AP Dmitry Kozak Dmitry Kozak, presidential envoy to the Southern Federal District, has accused regional leaders in the North Caucasus of corruption and abuse of power, according to a leaked version of a report he sent to President Vladimir Putin. The report, excerpts of which were published by Moskovsky Komsomolets on Thursday, was sent to Putin a month ago, the daily paper said. Fyodor Scherbakov, an aide to Kozak, confirmed the authenticity of the excerpts. Kozak's stark analysis of the situation came after he made strenuous efforts to prop up regional leaders and their power bases. Analysts said Thursday that the situation in the North Caucasus was so bad after years of Kremlin neglect that even Kozak, arguably the most effective administrator in Putin's team, had no silver bullet to improve matters. Russian officials study problems of far eastern Kuril islands 17/06/2005 17:24 VLADIVOSTOK, June 17 (RIA Novosti's Anatoly Ilyukhov) - The plenipotentiary representative of the Russian President in the Far Eastern federal district, Konstantin Pulikovsky, and deputy Russian Security Council secretary Nikolai Spassky today discussed the social and economic situation on the Kuril Islands, the Sakhalin region. As the press secretary of the plenipotentiary representative Yevgeny Anoshin said, the population has started more actively to use the Kuril land. People have begun to build comfortable houses, and the birthrate on the islands now tops the death rate.
