Latvian MPs Demand Compensation From Russia for Soviet-Era Losses

The Latvian parliament has passed a declaration demanding compensation from Russia for losses caused by the USSR.

62 of 100 MPs voted in favor of the document, and it will be handed over to the Latvian government soon.

According to the declaration, the government is due to set up a special commission that will calculate the losses. To calculate the exact sum, Latvian officials will ask Russia to give them access to the Kremlin’s archives.

Two variants of the declaration were considered by the Latvian parliament; it backed a much more liberal draft than that proposed by the Union of Greens and Peasants. The party suggested that 500,000 Russian nationals be deported from the country.

Georgia stands ready to consider taking expenses on the withdrawal of Russian military bases from its territory, Georgian Foreign Minister Salome Zurabishvili said here on Tuesday.

In statements released by the Itar-Tass news agency, Zurabishvili said Georgia would assume the expenses if they were "in reasonable limits", but the financial assistance to the pullout of the Russian bases had not been discussed at her recent meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow.

At present, any cost of transportation related to the withdrawal of the bases has not been mentioned by the Russian side in the talks, said Zurabishvili, who arrived here on Sunday.

The main thing is that neither Russia nor Georgia "makes any impracticable conditions that could be a cause of failure of the talks," Zurabishvili noted.

Adygeya Presidential Administration: the chief federal inspector tried to substitute executive bodies

 

At the request of IА REGNUM correspondent the head of Administration of Adygeya president Taly Beretar commented on the disputed situation which had developed between the chief federal inspector in SFD across Adygeya and Krasnodar territory Anatoly Odejchuk and republican authorities. We shall remind, several days earlier he had published an interview in the appendix of "Izvestia-Yug" newspaper in which he stated the opinion on the state of affairs in Adygeya and role of the chief federal inspector in it.

Ataman Gromov stated his opinion concerning Adygeya integration with Krasnodar territory

 

The ataman of the Kuban Cossack army Vladimir Gromov, being in Maykop on April, 21st, commented on republican TV the theme of possible abolition of the republic, spread recently, and integrating of its territory into Krasnodar territory. Vladimir Gromov told, in particular:

" Now our region requires peace and stability. It requires calmness, pacification. No necessity to touch borders now. It is not necessary to concern this problem now which may disturb national feelings, offend someone, and to cause one more wave of discontent. We‘ve got a lot of them without it".
