Members of North Ossetian Parliament ask not to allow withdrawal of peace keepers from South Ossetia NORTH OSSETIA, 16 February, Caucasus Times. Interfax reported that North Ossetian Parliament sent an address to the leadership of the country in connection with the situation in South Ossetia. In its address, North Ossetian Parliament expressed deep concern about the escalation of tension in the zone of operation of the Russian peace keepers in South Ossetia. “We express our resolute condemnation of the provocative actions of hard-liners among Georgian leadership who are turning the process of settling this conflict into destructive sphere”, - the document stresses. Address indicates that numerous declarations of Georgian side about the necessity to withdraw Russian peace keepers from the conflict zone and to have South Ossetia to join Georgia endanger the population of South Ossetia, most of whom are holders of Russian citizenship. MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax) - The Russian Defense Ministry is demanding an official explanation from Georgia concerning the arrest of three Russian officers in the village of Kurt on February 8, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Vyacheslav Sedov told Interfax on Saturday.
Russia is also demanding that the Russian officers' identification cards, seized by Georgian authorities, be returned and that official apologies be issued.
The Russian Defense ministry qualifies the arrest of the three Russian officers as "moves that do not facilitate stabilization in the Tskhinvali district."
"This provocation by Georgia, shows that Tbilisi's approach to problems is uncivilized," Sedov said.
The Georgian authorities illegally seized the Russian officers' identification cards and all other documents, he said.
The Russian officers left Georgia without any documents, having only copies of their identification cards, he said. sd la

Foreign special services funding rebels in North Caucasus - Russian official KABARDA-BALKARIA, 16 February, Caucasus Times - "We have information regarding the financing of militant activities by foreign special services," the deputy chief of the republic's Interior Ministry department to combat organized crime, Albert Sizhazhev, said during a round table at the Interior Ministry of Kabarda-Balkaria yesterday. According to the law enforcement chief, "foreigners from the Middle East were involved in the events of 13-14 October last year".
