MosNews Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said on Wednesday that 70 percent of next year’s state defense order would be spent on the procurement of new armaments and military hardware, the Interfax news agency reported.
“The state defense order will amount to 237 billion rubles ($8.27 billion) next year, which is nearly 54 billion rubles ($1.88 billion) more than this year. This will allow the spending of 70 percent of the funds on the procurement of new armaments and military hardware or comprehensive upgrades of the hardware currently available in military units,” Ivanov told reporters in Moscow.
He stressed that “next year we are planning to procure as much hardware as is needed to rearm a whole military unit — a battalion, a squadron or a regiment”.

A Chain Is No Stronger Than Its Weakest Link All our Circassian and Caucasian brothers and sisters in motherland and diaspora are obliged to start collecting the evidence. The evidence of genocide and all crimes that were committed against our blessed nation, and all the colonized nations in the so-called Federal Republic of Russia, because the same methods were used against all. The courageous Chechens had decided to defend their liberty, freedom and independence. They strived, suffered and went through defensive wars and hardship to be able to survive against the savage aggressive and horrible military attack which destroyed Chechnya for the sake of greed and imperialism. We should build a case against the criminals who should pay for their brutal crimes, and this case should be presented to Human Rights Organizations, civilized societies and nations of the world, and to the United Nations Organization. We should try to come up with sequence of events ... >> full

MosNews A number of telephone lines have been cut at the headquarters of the Russian Strategic Missile Troops in Vlasikha near Moscow.
The disconnection was caused by a technical failure, a source in the headquarters was quoted by Interfax news agency as saying.
“The disconnection has not affected the administration of troops, as military communications systems are unaffected and we can use mobile phones for the time being,” the source added.
The agency failed to reach the press service of the troops for comment, evidently because of the lack of functioning phone lines. http://www.mosnews.com/news/2005/12/13/vlasikhaphones.shtml

Dec 19 2005 4:16PM Absence of peace treaty no barrier to normal Russia-Japan ties - Russian Ambassador to Tokyo Alexander Losyukov MOSCOW. Dec 19 (Interfax) - Russian Ambassador to Tokyo Alexander Losyukov said that the absence of a peace treaty between Russia and Japan is not a barrier to further development of normal relations between the two countries. "Any committed observer understands that relations between our countries are developing successfully in the absence of a peace treaty," the Russian diplomat told Interfax on Monday Losyukov said, however, that the work on the peace treaty is important and that "other forms of legal settlement could also be found." The problem is how the settlement of the border delimitation, if it is attained, should be documented," the Russian diplomat said. "This could be done by adopting another legal act," he added. Losyukov said that the Joint Declaration, signed by the Soviet Union and Japan on October 19, 1956, is ... >> full
