In response to "Cossacks and Security in the Caucasus"

From time to time, it comes to us the imperial Russian propagandists and through the ways and means available in various languages to broadcast their toxins and to contaminate the information that people obtain from various sources in order to procrastinate and spreading lies, which is the official policy that is selected for inflaming nationalist sentiments among the colonized peoples and the turn over and the falsification of facts and misinformation and presenting information in accordance with glamorous models that would only contribute to more hatred and disgust created by the founders of the Russian Tsarist Empire and authorities inherited by successive governments.

One such example is the news published in writing, audio, and video on "Russia Today" Arabic Language Site, which is sponsored by the Russian government, entitled "The Cossacks and the Security in the Caucasus", which it contained inaccuracies, lies, and colonial Russian ideas without mentioning the fact, that is namely, the Russian occupation and the effects existed and still on the imperial presence and its impact on the oppressed peoples, the news also contained a discussion in the Russian language that is voice-translated to Arabic Language between the interviewer and two others, one of them seemed to be a Cossack academician and the other one by his name, appeared to be from one of the peoples of the North Caucasus, but the course of the talk was held in accordance with the parameters of Russian imperialism; cannot fail to recall here that the written version in Arabic Language had included a link on the word "Cossack" in the first paragraph which transfers the reader to the link in Arabic Language explaining about Cossacks, entitled "About the Russian Cossacks”, while placing another link on the word "Caucasus" at the beginning of the second paragraph, but surprisingly, the link coupled with the word "Cossack" again as the Cossack link one!

In the following is the full text of the written news for the reader to judge the matter:

Cossacks and Security in the Caucasus

Does Russia need to establish military units from Cossacks? Will Cossacks contribute in the restoration of security in the North Caucasus? How to establish friendship and good neighborly relations with the peoples of the republics of the North Caucasus? On this subject, the two guests will speak on Panorama program.

Information about the subject:

The North Caucasus is historically considered a common home of many peoples, among them various mountainous peoples, and also including the Cossacks who represent a distinct ethnic, cultural and civilization group of the contents of the Russian people. The Caucasus Cossacks are the descendants of Russian settlers at large who resided at that time along the rivers of South Russia and in the foothills of the mountains, and they are characterized by their authenticity and peculiarity of living based on the glorious tribal pride, courage, the personal dignity, the spirit of chivalry, and mastering the use of arms. These traditions and distinctive life style had rounded Cossacks historically to their neighbors of the mountains in the North Caucasus, although relations between the two sides were unfortunately not always characterized by harmony. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the Cossacks turned to a privileged military group. The military Cossacks had participated during the Russian tsarist regime era in numerous wars, and were assigned to protect and guard Russia's southern borders, including the Caucasus region. On the other hand, the Cossacks were enjoying social independency and significant privileges were to be exempted from taxes and in the utilization of large areas of land for the purpose of housing and settlement.

During the Soviet era, Cossacks no longer represented an organized military force, but they kept their ethnic cultural characteristic. In the nineties, during a crisis situation in Chechnya and neighboring areas many Cossacks were exposed, along with the rest of the Russian population, to torment and repeated assaults by the separatists, even some of them had to leave their homes and lands. But now the Russian leadership has taken great interest in the Cossacks under the framework of the return of the Russian-speaking population policy to their lands in the Caucasus. It has been initiated, for example, to activate the task for the formation of qualified military units of the Cossacks. However, such plans got its supporters and opponents. Some say that the strengthening of Cossacks’ positions in the North Caucasus supported by the State leads to the strengthening of security and order there. While others point out the potential for the occurrence of certain problems, notably the possibility of conflicts in a number of republics of the Northern Caucasus between the Cossacks and the local population of the Muslim mountainous peoples in the event of the restoration of lands where the Cossacks formerly used to live in, and in the event of the formation of Cossacks’ military units there. Needless to say, on the other side, the tasks of maintaining order and ensuring peace in the North Caucasus is a shared responsibility of all inhabitants of the region. And resolving that in accordance with Russian laws should provide and strengthen the requirements and capabilities of peaceful development and good-neighborly relations among all the peoples of southern Russia.
