Russian troops occupied the springboard for the assault of Kodori Publication time: 19 July 2008, 15:09 Georgian sources reported urgent news that severa hundred Russian soldiers were deployed in the lower part of the Kodori Gorge on the night of July 19. According to source, the Russian military is coordinating by a former commissioner of president of Georgia in the Kodori gorge Emzar Kvitsiani, who is wanted by authorities in Georgia.
The source also noted that the authorities of Abkhazia and the Russian side in the case of capture of the upper Kodori gorge promised Kvitsiani freedom of action throughout the gorge.
"It is clear that Russian forces are preparing for storm of the upper Kodori Gorge. However, the projected date of the assault is not mentioned, but the population of border villages are very anxious because of this", said the source.
Let us recall that earlier Russian gangs of "Pskov 76 and Novorossiysk 7th landing assault division" on Friday took a position at Roksk and Mamisonsk passes of the Greater Caucasus range on the border with Georgia.
Transcaucasian highway (linking the occupied territory of the Caucasus Emirate with Transcaucasia) is located at Roksk pass. Mamisonsk pass is located directly on the border of Georgia.
"Landing assault regiment" from Volgograd was also deployed to Krasnodar region on Friday, which is going to be sent to the border of Abkhazia.
