Russia to protect firmly its interests-Ivanov
10.02.2008, 12.48
MUNICH, February 10 (Itar-Tass) - Russia will firmly protect its national interests, but not by establishing military blocs or open confrontation with its opponents, said First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov at the Munich Conference on security policy.
“It’s self-evidence for all the audience that the process of Russia’s revival could not objectively influence both its wish to occupy a worthy place in the world arena and our desire to protect firmly our national interests,” he said. “Incidentally, we do not try to settle this task by setting up military blocs or starting open confrontation with our opponents,” Ivanov emphasised.
He explained that “Russia has chosen another road: we consistently develop multi-vector cooperation with various countries. Incidentally, we do this both at a bilateral level and within major international and regional organisations”.
