08.09.2007, 23.03
KALININGRAD, September 8 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia’s Baltic Fleet ended routine manoeuvres on Saturday.
Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Konstantin Sidenko told Itar-Tass in an exclusive interview that the goals and objectives of the manoeuvres had been achieved.
The manoeuvres, which began on August 28, involved about 7.500 sailors, 38 ships and auxiliary vessels, almost 50 armoured vehicles, 16 planes and eight helicopters, as well as air defence units.
They executed 84 combat exercises, including missile and artillery shooting, mine-laying, and others, Sidenko said.
“The fleet has a small but combat capable group of underwater units that successfully performed all tasks during the manoeuvres,” he said.
“I am proud to say that all torpedo launches were executed excellently,” the commander said.
