The next possible project of the regions’ integration appeared to be near to failure. On October 31st as a united front against association of Republic of Altai with Altai territory the Kurultai of the Altai people (the public organization represents the interests of the indigenous population of the republic), together with the recently created movement "For republic!" and the deputies of the State assembly of Mountain Altai.

At the session of the State assembly 30 from among 35 present deputies (41 deputies in the parliament in total) adopted a proclamation for inadmissibility of liquidation of the Altai Republic. "The begun process of liquidation of the republic passes without taking into account of the national-historical traditions, social and economic expediency, political prospects, - it was spoken in the document. - Further moving in that direction can threat political stability of Russia. We, the deputies of the State assembly, declare our firm position for preservation of the republican status of our territory".

Let's note that the head of the republic Alexander Berdnikov yesterday was in Moscow, but his reference was read to the deputies. In it he asked the members of the parliament "not to make precipitate decisions" and "rash sharp statements" as, according to the head of the region, "at the federal level there are no supporters of the power solving of the question of the regions’ integration". The deputies, apparently, had not follow that appeal.

Yesterday in Gorno-Altaisk a meeting against association of the republic with the next region passed. By its organizers’ estimations, in it nearby 5,5-6 thousand people had taken part. To the meeting’s participants, having interrupted for a while the session, the deputies of the State assembly went out; with a brief speech the speaker Ivan Belekov acted.

"No need to repeat mistakes of the past, - the head of the social movement "For republic!” Vladimir Petrov declared to "NG". - Plenipotentiary of the president of Russian Federation in the Siberian federal district Anatoly Kvashnin repeatedly invited our heads and spoke about necessity of initiation of the association procedure. He said to us: write applications to the president about your will to be integrated. So he used the administrative resource. In particular, he had also invited the heads of the two subjects, and the speakers of the both parliaments. Participants of the meeting condemned Kvashnin's position (at the meeting there were slogans "Kvashnin - hands off our republic!"-"NG"); they approved resolutions against association of the regions.

Let's note, in Republic of Altai 204,5 thousand people live, Russians make 57,4 percent from the aggregate number of the population, Altaians (belong to the Turkic language group) make 30,6 percent, Kazakhs – 6 percent. The population of Altai territory makes 2,7 million people. 90 percent of them are Russians, 3,9 percent - Germans, 2,9 percent are Ukrainians.
