MOSCOW. July 18 (Interfax) - Russia will take every possible measure to prevent a destabilization of the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia and to ensure the observance of international agreements, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said in a statement.
"Russia will take every possible measure to ensure the observance of existing international agreements, to prevent a destabilization of the situation in the region, and to protect the rights and interests of Russian citizens living there," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in connection with a resolution by the Georgian parliament demanding the withdrawn of Russian peacekeeping forces from the conflict areas on its territory.
"Russia views this resolution as a provocative step aimed at fomenting tensions, ruining the existing negotiation formats, and dismantling the legal basis for a peaceful settlement of the Georgian- Abkhaz and Georgian-South Ossetian conflicts," the Foreign Ministry said.
"The accusations addressed to Russia in the resolution are an indecent attempt to lay the blame on somebody else," the Foreign Ministry said.
"We believe that the language of ultimatums Georgia is using in relation to the Russian peacekeepers is counterproductive," the statement says.
