TIRASPOL. June 20 (Interfax) - Leader of the self-proclaimed republic of Transdniestria Igor Smirnov has applauded the role Russia and Ukraine played in settling the conflict with the Moldovan authorities and said that the countries' efforts have helped maintain peace and security in Transdniestria.
"It is the active steps by the guarantor countries that act as the main security factor in the region and help preserve peace. No matter how hard they are trying to rattle their sabers in Chisinau, no matter what sanctions they are threatening, I am grateful to Ukraine and Russia," Smirnov told journalists in the city of Bendery on Sunday.
