On July 18, Circassians activists from several countries, including Russia’s North Caucasus, called on the Circassian and Caucasian organizations to focus on helping the Syrian Circassians. The Circassians in the North Caucasus celebrate August 1 as Repatriate’s Day, and the celebrations this year are bound to be celebrated with an ever greater sense of urgency because of the Syrian crisis. Tbilisi Symposium Conference Resolution 11 -7-2012

 

  The conference "Sochi 2014 Olympic Games and Georgian_Circassian Eco-cultural Environment” is a follow-up of the Genocide recognition of the Georgian Parliament which will focus on the following:

 

(1)-Identifying the next steps needed to obtain international recognition of the Genocide and Deportation of the Circassians in the 19th century. And, addressing the Genocide as a continuing tragedy until today affecting all Circassians profoundly inside and outside Circassia.

 

(2)-It is also designed to oppose and find peaceful and non-violent ways to stop Russia from holding the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi as it is one of the sites of the Circassian Genocide. The following objectives will be focused on:

       A- Sochi and its surrounding areas is a site of the Circassian Genocide.

       B-The effect of the Sochi Winter Olympics on 7 million Circassians worldwide. ...

On July 3, the prime minister of Adygea, Murat Kumpilov, received a member of the Jordanian parliament, Munir Sobrok. The visitor from Jordan reportedly came to Adygea to explore the situation in the republic and make inquiries as to whether the Adygean authorities were prepared to accept Circassian refugees from Syria. Sobrok informed the Adygean officials that Jordan’s King Abdullah II was willing to help all Syrian Circassians fleeing Syria, including those who wanted to relocate to the North Caucasus. Sobrok reportedly stated that the Jordanian authorities do not put obstacles in the way of Syrian Circassians escaping violence from that country by crossing into neighboring Jordan. F.E.C. NEWS : The Federation of European Circassians has the honour to conduct the 7th consecutive Circassian Day at the European Parliament in Brussels on 18th June, 2012.Mr. Ismail Ertug, MP at the European Parliament representing the German SPD party will be supporting us again this year.

The major topic of this year’s event will be:

The XXII. Olympic Winter Games in Sochi with regard to the expulsion of the Circassians and other indigenous people of the North Caucasus from their homelands one-and-a-half centuries ago.

Next to many Circassian and non-Circassian NGOs we have also invited representatives of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to join this summit in order to mutually discuss the Olympic topic from different perspectives.
