The North Caucasians have always been known for their vigour, good health, physical strength and longevity. Circassians paid great attention to enhancing the beauty and symmetry of their children’s physiques. This cultic preoccupation with physical perfection meant that for male children of princely and noble descent, a rigorous, almost severe, martial training regimen was part and parcel of the formative years. The use of leather straps and other devices to contract the middle area produced the ideal shape in the folkloric ethos of a lean torso and wide chest. A slender waist for both males and females was at a premium.Costumes were designed to enhance and highlight the beauty of the body according to prevalent ideals. The Circassians were the fashion trend-setters in the Caucasus. | Vienna, October 1 -- With direct
assistance of the FSB, pro-Moscow officials have gained control over
two of the three main Circassian national groups in the North Caucasus,
a victory that may move Pyrrhic because it is leading to the decline of
the influence of these groups and the radicalization of many younger
Circassians.
In fact, two articles published online
this week suggest, Moscow’s efforts -- which have effectively gelded
what was a more active national movement in the 1990s -- threaten to
transform the western portions of the North Caucasus where most of the
700,000 Circassians of Russia live from relative quiescence into

Declaration of the Federation of European Circassians regarding the 4th Circassian Day at the European Parliament in Brussels. |

| FEDERATION of EUROPEAN CIRCASSIANS : The 4th consecutive Circassian Day at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium, organized by the Federation of European Circassians and Ms Ska Keller, MeP, took place on Monday 5th October, 2009. Many scholars, academics and participants from all over the world joined this event.
The conference started with welcoming speeches by Mr Admiral Dasdemir, president of the federation, in Adygean and by Ms Ska Keller, who stated she and her party the Greens will continue to support the Circassians at their endeveours in Europe.
The conference, titled "Circassian homeland and diaspora" was divided into two parts. The first part dealt with the Circassians in the diaspora. The second one with those in their homeland in Northern Caucasus.

Circassiad project’s presentation in the USA
On October, 30th in the state of New Jersey, the USA, the presentation of the project Circassiad-2012 organized by the Circassian charitable association of the USA and the Circassian institute of culture of New Jersey. The presentation was lead by the author of the project Sufian Jemuhov, chairman of the historical commission of Adygeyan public organizations coordination council, the scientific expert of the program of the Euro-Asian strategic project.
Sufian Jemuhov told representatives of Circassian Diaspora of the USA that together with the other author of the project Alexey Bekshokov, chairman of the Union of Abkhazian volunteers, they had lead six presentations in Russia, including Sochi, St.-Petersburg and Moscow. To support of the project the ascention to Elbrus, the highest top of Europe had been made; the climbers took a Circassian flag which in 1993 had been fixed above the building of the Government of Abkhazia ... >> full

The European Parliament on Oct. 5 held a hearing on the Circassian problems. On the party told the hearing, the head of the Kabardino-Balkaria Human Rights Center Valery Khatazhukov.
According Hatazhukova, hearing "Circassian Day in European Parliament" held for the fourth time. The initiative belongs to the European Federation of the Circassian community organizations - khas. The purpose of the hearings - discussion of the Circassian issue. This year, at a hearing attended by about 250 people representing the Circassian diaspora in Europe and Turkey. The event was also attended by several MEPs.
