CIRCASSIANS IN THE 21st CENTURY: PROBLEMS AND OPPORTUNITIES

At the symposium on "Circassians in the 21st Century: Problems and Opportunities” organized by Caucasian Reasearch, Culture and Solidarity Foundation (Kaf-Dav) themes such as migrations and exiles of Circassians in history; their demographical compositions; socio-economic and political problems; preservation and improvement of their language and cultural heritages will be discussed.


Papers to be presented at the symposium must be previously unpresented / unpublished papers. Presentations can be in one of English, Turkish or Russian languages provided that they include an abstract in English. Papers will be presented in 30 minutes including 20-minute presentation and 10-minute discussion lots within sessions on flexible themes. Simultaneous sessions may be held according to the number of presentations accepted.


Necessary translation services will be provided during symposium presentations.


Applicants willing to participate as a presenter are asked to send their abstracts, within the aforementioned frame, by filling in the supplied ‘Paper Abstract Form‘ and ‘Information Form for Applicants‘ via e-mail to info@21yuzyildacerkesler.org until 11 July 2011. A translation into English must be provided for the abstracts written in one of Turkish or Russian languages; Applicants filling in the ‘Information Form for Applicants’ in one of  Turkish or Russian languages must fill in the ‘Information Form for Applicants‘ in English.


Paper abstracts must be within 200-250 words, and clearly express the purpose of the paper; 3-7 keywords must be given under the abstract.

Paper abstracts must be written in font ‘Times New Roman’ size 11, with a Title in font size 14, 1,5 lines and 6 points paragraph spacing by using the supplied ‘Paper Abstract Form‘. There must not be any lines left empty between two paragraphs in the abstract.


Abstracts sent by the applicants will be subjected to Blind Review by the Scientific Committee. Accepted abstracts will be announced to the applicants on the symposium website and through e-mail until 25 July 2011. Accepted abstracts will be published in the ‘Symposium Abstract Brochure’.


Participants are required to submit their full paper to the symposium secretariat until 05 September 2011 and to make the payment for symposium registration until then. For papers with more than one author, at least one author is required to register for the symposium by making the payment for the symposium until 05 September 2011.

Notice to the applicants of the symposium

There have been an unexpected number of abstracts submitted for the symposium in the last few days preceding the abstract submission deadline. So, a number of abstracts are pending at the symposium scientific committee members for a couple of days more. We will be able to inform the applicants about the assessment results in a few days. The results will be directed to the e-mails of the submitters.

The symposium on "Circassians in the 21st Century: Problems and Opportunities”, organized by Caucasian Research, Culture and Solidarity Foundation (KAF-DAV) will be held on 22-25 September 2011.

The aim of the symposium is to discuss the demographical, social, cultural, economic, and political situation of Circassians living in different parts and countries of the world, assess their chances and opportunities, and put forward proposals on the future within the light of historical and scientific data. It is expected that the symposium will contribute to the analysis of the current situation of Circassians and to raise awareness on the subject within scientific and political circles at international and national levels.

Issues such as the migrations and the exiles of Circassians, their demographical structures, socio-economic and political problems, preservation and improvement of their language and cultural heritages will be discussed throughout the symposium.

Participation of relevant individuals and institutions to the symposium is expected particularly from scientific circles at international and national levels. There will be conferences of keynote speakers, discussion sessions, and paper presentations in the symposium programme.Symposium papers will be published.

The symposium will be in English, Turkish, and Russian languages; necessary translation services will be provided.

We are expecting your participation either as presenters or observers.
