THE LETTER OF CIRCASSIAN

It is a mistake to think that the main striking force for the control of transnational corporations over the territories will be "Army of the future”, transferred from the pages of the American comics to the websites of Pentagon. Even the inveterate warriors from private companies are just a supporting material. A successful capture, as a successful defense, always has its strategy and tactics. And in our time they are in the principle — "use human potential”. People are the objects of information technology, with the help of which one forges the fronts of modern global war.

Even the inveterate warriors from private companies are just a supporting material. A successful capture, as a successful defense, always has its strategy and tactics. And in our time they are in the principle — "use human potential”. People are the objects of information technology, with the help of which one forges the fronts of modern global war.

In the Caucasus there is such a nation — Adyghs. Someone may remember the Adygei cheese, or even the Republic of Adygea. Someone remember the word "Circassian”. Some may even be aware that the Adyghs include Kabardians and even the nationality of Shapsugs in the Krasnodar region. Those who regularly look through analytical websites will quickly present an associative chain: 450 years of voluntary entry to Russia — the wife of Ivan the Terrible — the armed rebellion in Nalchik in October 2005 — Yulia Latynina — drawing of the Circassian card in anticipation of the Sochi Olympics — requirements to Russia on recognizing the genocide of Circassians — Circassians — relatives of Abkhazians and together there are a lot of them in Turkey.

One may also remember… the fanned clashes between Kabardians and Balkars in one republic and Karachais and Circassians — in another.

Most of those who know the name "Adyghs” will say something, shrug their shoulders, and, depending on political affiliation, note another aspect of the global situation. Someone may say: "And what is one all of a fidget? If one is a good man what is the difference whether he is a Circassian or not…”.

And someone, in the spirit of modern geopolitics, will speak about strategic factors, based on the realities of a new war: the situation of the Adyghi ethnic group in the Caucasus, its Diasporas abroad, the recent history of this nation and its unique culture with a pronounced ethnicity, developed individualism and the cult of the military spirit.

If any young Circassian guy turns up, for example, one of the students worrying about their people, he will most likely tell about the horrors that accompanied the conquest by tsarist Russia of Adyghi lands 150—200 years ago, the tragedy of the eviction, the ancestral habitats, where nobody remembers about the Adyghs any more, about the immorality of Russia, destroying his people's spiritually and refusing to recognize the genocide. And, perhaps, will mention at the end, that nobody says that the great conductor Yuri Temirkanov, artist Mikhail Shemyakin or Mayor of London are Circassians by origin. True, he may be more grounded in politics and say about inseparability of the fates of Russia and Circassians today.

Less likely to find another young man of Adyghi nationality, who will say that those who today praise the tragic history of their people, may be used by one of the sides of current geopolitical confrontations and unpleasantly feel themselves to be a cannon fodder. Do we see the battlefields for own fortune?

But if the one who writes these lines turns up — what would he like to say to those who read them?

While he is writing them, hundreds of thousands of Russian Adyghs continue to make their living where they find possibilities. The view of the Elbrus is beautiful as before; the ancient cultures, crafts and breeds of horse are revived; new trends in music and fashion of the Adyghs are developed under the influence of globalization. Among young people someone smokes marijuana, turns the air blue, drinks beer, someone makes namaz and finds a basis in Islam, someone is keen on constructing "the ancient original religion of the Adyghs”. Congeners from abroad, on the one hand, seek to preserve and develop their national origin, on the other — continue to forget their native language. It is still easier to leave than to force through corruption. Still a great number of differently mercenary public make policy on issues of distribution of economic and social resources between Kabardians and Balkars, Karachais and Circassians, Adyghs and Russians.

The Circassian card is played, Circassians live, and few of them can see the battlefields for their fate. Most do not ask themselves such questions, the incited youth dreams about Circassian passports, or jihad, many simply live on the principle of "do what must do, and let it be what will be”.

So why should one write these lines? To make something clear for someone by incoherent hints, or to warn somebody about something? Or, maybe, to set out some questions on specific topics?

For example, why and, more importantly, at whose instigation one bandy about the topic "genocide of the Circassians”? Genocide is what the Nazis did with the Jews during the Second World War. Did they do the same with the Adyghs? Genocide is when people are physically destroyed, to the root, young and old. Clearing of several areas from troubled population and the course of assimilation of the remaining is clearly not the same thing, though was once the policy of the tsarist authorities. There was a brutal war and severe deportation. But much more mountain people were killed on the Turkish ships and in the Ottoman Empire from the hardships, than on the road to the Black Sea coast. And when our activists with the academic qualifications are waving the flag of "genocide”, instead of explaining all the complexity to patriotically disposed young people — what does this mean?

Or, for example, what does mean the fist, squeezing the arrows of the Adyghi national flag on Elbrus in the emblem of the Worldwide Circassian Brotherhood? Three arrows are a historic symbol of dignity, restraint and honor. And what does the fist symbolize? Whom do they show it? Or do they so demonstrate our unity?

Everybody now speaks about the solidarity, which the Circassians have never had in the foreseeable past. And, therefore, they look forward, not backward. But those who squeeze the arrows above Elbrus with fists and urge their conscientious congeners to unite in the struggle for recognition of the genocide — what future of their people do they see? 20 years ago, in a great empire, "oppressing identity of the Adyghs”, their children did not shoot each other in the streets. But two hundred years before, when our ancestors were independent, and laid others under tribute — Circassians themselves were no less enemies than others. And now, using the language of ultimatums with the state, seeing who is stronger with chauvinists among neighboring peoples, creating a particular ethnic religion — what do these activists seek for? Do they know how to create a unified Circassia without clan squabbles and corruption? Do they believe that it is possible to wring money from Russia for "genocide” and safely return a couple of millions of overseas fellow countrymen to their motherland? And to gag dissatisfied neighbors under the slogan "the interests of Adyghs are above all”?

There is no solidarity among the Adyghs. But there is an Adyghity among the Adyghs. The original culture, inherited from ancestors. Perhaps the cause of Circassian intestine wars in the past and not the best moral condition of the people in the present lie not only in external factors. But Adyghity includes the developed culture of thinking, high standards of morality and ethics, humanity. One my congener, who discovered the history of the ancestors, said: "God save wings to the people who can fly”.

This is not a stagnant system; it can help people to avoid "negative sides of globalization”.

But culture is not for nothing known as a strategic tool for the new era. The legacy of ancestors can turn the Adyghs into the bastion of stability and positive development. If to emasculate it in mutating and degenerating forms — the Adyghs will become a chronic source of instability. Or will supply fighters for some transnational corporation, having seized a foothold — in exchange for the bone in the form of Circassian passports, for example.

And it makes sense to write these lines, so that one reads them. Nowadays nobody lives by himself/herself, even if tries to. Can one be more clever against the backdrop of the fact that all of us are seen as primary product for resource wars by those who are quite capable of inciting these wars — indeed, have long been leading them?

Apparently, no nation today is able to protect itself alone. Hereto we live in the era of globalization. It is worth telling others. If normal people from different nations do not help each other — hence, my people will not fly up again.
