Russia criticises UK murder inquiry
Andrei Lugovoi denies any involvment in Alexander Litvinenko's death [AP]
Russian prosecutors have dismissed the British inquiry into the murder of Alexander Litvinenko, a critic of the Kremlin who was poisoned in London last year, calling it politically motivated.
Gordon Brown, the British prime minister, on Monday repeated his country's request for Moscow to turn in the main suspect in Litvinenko's killing.
Russia is continuing to refuse to extradite Andrei Lugovoi, saying to do so would violate its constitution.
Alexander Zvyagintsev, Russia's deputy prosecutor-general, told a Moscow news conference: "We refused extradition on the basis of the law."
'People at risk'
He said that Britain's expulsion from London last week of four Russian diplomats in reaction to the refusal was "plainly groundless, inappropriate, unjustified and lies exclusively in a political framework".
