Novodvorskaya and K. Borovoi RUSSIA, Moscow. "We call all democratic parties claiming to be such to state immediately their uncompromising opposition to the present authorities. We demand that the Western business stopped investing into the Russian economy because every dollar or euro will contribute to fuelling new stakes," stated Valeriya Novodvorskaya, leader of the Democratic Union, on 8 June speaking at the press conference at Independent Press Centre. "Anyone who cooperates with Putin’s regime can consider themselves guilty of handcuffing Lebedev and Khodorkovsky. Putin is leading [the country] to neo-Stalinism [stepping] over dead bodies, and no one can be certain that tomorrow they won’t come for them. The inquisition-style trial in Meshchansky Court has ended, as it was meant to, in auto-da-f?. The prison term given to Platon Lebedev and Mikhail Khodorkovsky can be considered quite Stalinist in its extreme harshness as well as lack of ... >> full

From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 6/10/2005 3:29 AM Less than one in three see Russia day as public holiday - poll 10.06.2005, 04.04 MOSCOW, June 10 (Itar-Tass) - Most Russians – 63.1 percent – see Russia Day (July 12) just as an extra day off, while only one in three – 31.2 percent - feel seriously about it and are prepared to celebrate it as a public holiday, as follows from an opinion poll the sociological firm Bashkirova and Partners held at the end of May. Fifteen hundred men and women of different age were questioned. One of the reasons why most Russians’ attitude to one of the first post-Soviet holidays is rather cool is the widely-spread uncertainty about the degree of democracy in the country. According to the poll, over fifty one percent of the polled disagreed with the statement that Russia today is a democratic country, while 41.7 percent stated the opposite. The younger the group of respondents, the bigger the share of those who see June 12 ... >> full

Solzhenitsyn's Dream and Jamaats of Russian Moslems

June, 10, 2005 Solzhenitsyn's Dream and Jamaats of Russian Moslems Russian nationalists and generally all parties and groups are in opposition to the Kremlin, often name Putin's regime to be "antinational". This is a deeply erroneous definition. At least, it is necessary to have people in order to name any regime of authority to be an "antinational” one. Whether it is possible, even with great efforts, to name the population of Russia "people"? In order to answer this question correctly, it is necessary to know, that there is a basic difference between the population and people, though many people consider these terms to be synonyms. Population is a human mass filling "the state capacity" and obediently taking the shape, which is taken by the state according to the discretion of the imperious elite. People are something absolutely other. People understand the interests and needs and themselves state the shapes of the state according to their own needs, seeing in the imperious elite only "hired workers", who are ... >> full

More than 460 people in the Tver region and neighboring areas are now suffering from the virus, the Interfax news agency said, citing regional health officials. But Vladislav Ivanov, the head doctor of the district hospital in Rzhev near Tver, denied a sharp increase in the number of new patients. "We can see that the stabilization has peaked and we expect a decrease in a day or two. We hope for that," Ivanov said in televised comments. Epidemiologists were centering their investigation on alcohol-free drinks produced by a local brewery, with reports saying lemonade or kvas, a traditional drink made from fermented bread, could be to blame. Hepatitis A is transmitted through food or water and is often ... >> full
