From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 4/5/2005 10:20 AM Chechens Don’t Have Horns Our Russian correspondent reports from Ingushetia, and finds tremendous hospitality amidst the terrible violence of the region. Over winter holidays, I took a train to Nazran, Ingushetia. The only person I knew specifically to look for was the editor of "Chechen Society". He promised to let me read through his archives for a research project. I arrived alone at five o'clock on Sunday morning. An Ingush boy had me under his protection and hailed a cab to one of the only local hotels. Monday morning, the editor was not yet in his office, so I sought out "Memorial - Human Rights Center". Memorial is the most reputable Russian human rights organization and the Nazran division currently collects information on massive violations in Ingushetia and Chechnya. A diminutive journalist first greeted me, we began a discussion but were interrupted by the arrival of two Italians on an informal "youth ambassador" mission. The ... >> full

Maskhadov may have been trapped 'internationally'

From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 4/8/2005 5:58 AM 5/4/2005 Maskhadov may have been trapped 'internationally' There are facts that the Ichkeria president Aslan Maskhadov was killed through imitation of the Russian government's readiness to hold talks on political settlement of the armed conflict in Chechnya, says the Council of Non-governmental Organisations. This can be confirmed by one of Maskhadov's last interviews he gave shortly before his death. A number of NGOs have a video cassette with his interview in Chechen. In this interview the Ichkeria president speaks about some forthcoming peace talks with Russia. In doing so, he also mentions the countries that provided mediation, namely the foreign ministries of Germany and Switzerland. To some or other extent the talks were also expected to involve OSCE representatives. Aslan Maskhadov was informed about these proposals through his special representative Umar Khambiyev. Maskhadov speaks about the possible talks with the Russian party as practically a settled question. He also emphasises it was Russia that initiated it and several times calls ... >> full

From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 4/8/2005 11:04 AM April, 8, 2005 "Putin can commit a suicide" For the clear reasons, I cannot name the author of this letter in spite of the fact that he is incurably ill, but, nevertheless, and I also have no right “to hold it under a cloth”. For this reason I direct it to your address for its possible publication. Yours faithfully, Alexander Litvinenko ********* Dear Alexander! My name is (…) I am a doctor-psychiatrist by profession, and I am personally acquainted with Vladimir Putin, whom I had examined before he became the president of Russia . I closely read all your articles and publications, where you very consistently expose the KGB regime, and I do not have doubts: you are a fair person. I thought for a long time before to write to you, what I, as a doctor-psychiatrist, know about my patient Putin. Understand me correctly: the first thing is that I as the doctor gave Hippocratic Oath, and the second thing is a ... >> full

From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 4/10/2005 3:59 PM Germany, Switzerland and PACE involved in murder of President Maskhadov After Chechen Commander Shamil Basayev stated that the murder of President Maskhadov was organized with the use of the idea of possible negotiations with Russia, which the Chechen President was pressing towards, many journalists and human rights organizations have expressed their own versions about the technology of that political assassination used by Moscow. And even though with the help of controlled media and domesticated commentators Moscow is still trying to obscure the issue around the death of President of Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (CRI), independent observers still have enough of forcible arguments to be claiming that the murder of President Maskhadov was organized with the assistance of top political leaders of a number of European States. Today there is no doubt that the Chechen President was killed while imitation was made that Moscow was allegedly ready for negotiations with President Maskhadov. Chechen human ... >> full

Is “velvet revolution” possible in Russia ?

From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 4/14/2005 4:00 AM April, 14, 2005 Is “velvet revolution” possible in Russia ? Some analysts and experts interpret the process of regrouping of forces in the CIS as something responding to the reality of our time and fitting with the natural logic of the civilized development that should not be resisted, or, in other words, it would be out of place to resist it. Others evaluate the processes taking place today as the result of the collisions of global geopolitical interests in the Eurasian territory, first of all, that of the USA that is often in variance with the interests of Russia . And in both cases it is clear that Russia loses its influence in the post-soviet space. Meantime, despite the alarming symptoms, Putin persistently declares that relations of Russia with the countries of CIS are a priority of the Russian foreign policy. However, according to the majority of experts, Russia failed to provide a basis for realization of the given priority of Russian ... >> full
