MosNews A Norwegian TV channel said Thursday that Norway’s Defense Ministry has confirmed the expulsion of its advisor from Russia, RIA Novosti news agency reports. Ingjerd Kroken was declared persona non grata and expelled from Russia immediately following her arrival at a Moscow airport Wednesday as part of an official Norwegian delegation. “The Defense Ministry has been informed of the incident and will hold consultations with the Foreign Ministry on the issue Thursday,” the ministry’s senior advisor was quoted as saying. Neither the Norway’s Foreign Ministry, nor the Norway’s Defense Ministry wanted to comment on the situation at the moment. Kroken, who is also a co-chairperson of the Arctic Military Environmental Cooperation, was a member of the delegation that arrived in Moscow to discuss the decommissioning of nuclear submarines on the Kola Peninsula, in Russia’s north. Norway has allocated some 160 million euros to the project since 1993. http://www.mosnews.com/news/2007/02/08/finnishexpelled.shtml

Darling spoke at the end of his three-day visit to Moscow. His sharp comments followed talks with Russia’s Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin, which were designed to shore up Britain’s interests in Russia in anticipation of a troubled period of diplomacy. Britain was Russia’s biggest foreign investor last year with 2.8 billion pounds invested in the first nine months. Mr Darling said he raised his concerns that foreign investors in Russia were not facing clear ground rules with Mr Kudrin and the Industry and Energy Minister, Viktor Khristenko. He criticized the state-run energy company Gazprom’s takeover of a majority stake in Shell’s huge Sakhalin-2 oil and gas project in December. ... >> full

From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 2/10/2007 1:22 AM Analyst: “Alliance with Timoshenko poses threat of collapse for Our Ukraine” Declarations on alliance of BYT and Our Ukraine are an achievement for Yulia Timoshenko and a possible point for breakup of the pro-presidential political force, Ukrainian political analyst Kost Bondarenko told a REGNUM correspondent today. “It is a situational combination; they appear quite often now. For Yulia Timoshenko it is, undoubtedly, an achievement. She showed that she can unite. It is a signal for the electorate that there is plenty of life left in her and her bloc can not only generate slogans, but work constructively,” the expert believes. According to him, for Our Ukraine it is a turning point that can result in a split of the party, because attitudes towards Yulia Timoshenko in Our Ukraine are not the same, and some politicians are very negative about her seeing her as threat. “I think we are on the verge of major events in the orange camp. From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 2/10/2007 1:29 AM Gates prepares for a large-scale war with Iran, North Korea, China and Russia US Defense Minister Robert Gates called for increasing US army in order to be ready for a large-scale operation. North Korea, Iran, Russia and China are listed among potential enemies. “We don't know what's going to develop in places like Russia and China, in North Korea, in Iran and elsewhere,” the Pentagon head said at US Senate Armed Services Committee hearings. He supported increasing military expenditures, as it will allow increasing the number of “free detachments.” The statements seemingly shocked Americans. The current Pentagon head, who worked for the CIA almost 30 years, was considered to be quite a pragmatic person, who apparently was quite sober about the relations with Russia. Quite recently he was speculating on about necessity and usefulness of restoring the bygone Russian authority, Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper (Russia) says. Meanwhile, Mayak Radio believes that it does not necessarily mean that the Pentagon chief called directly ... >> full
