Putin’s Democracy!

Jamil Aldheyabi ALHAYAT - 18/06/07

A President did not wait testimony from anyone, and a Leader who did not think one day of a people’s testimony. A President says what he says and what the people should only do is ratification and reverence, as a leader declares from the Kremlin’s «historical» overlooking window, to say that he is «the only democratic in the world». Talk in the opposite direction of what is written in the books of modern science, the distance between fact and fiction is, as the distance between words and deeds, or as the distance between myth and reality. Psychologists say that the human being to cure self of the ailment of «chauvinism», and «narcissism», in order not to indulge in self-love, and to reach up to the splendor eulogy of the say and the deification of action.

President Vladimir Putin rejects «the distance, the door, the wall and the guard», to submit praise to himself by words, forgetting acts of Russian «intelligence» that he drank out of its glass for many years.

The certificates of good conduct and behavior are not self-granted by the same person for himself regardless of his position in the hierarchy, but granted by official or popular institutions for their affiliates. Just as the proper use of authority certificates, and the exercise of democracy and the fight against corruption and protection of integrity and entrench the principles of justice are granted by the real acts, as evidenced by nations that certify leaders and officials, based on concrete facts through interpretation and activation of the decisions that commensurate with the political, economical, social, and cultural realities, within the communities.

But the question remains: How can the case be when it comes to a president of a great state to grant himself a certificate of «innocence», good behavior & conduct, and with vainglory he is «the only democratic in the world» disregarding the testimony of a people or the opinion of other peoples nearby or far away?

On the eve of the inauguration of the G8 Summit in the city of «Heiligendamm» (Northern Germany), President Putin criticized what is happening in the world of torture, detention without trials, the American violations in Guantanamo detention camp, and the ongoing repression of demonstrators in Europe by using the rubber bullets and tear gases, in reference to the wounding of at least one thousand people in the recent demonstrations against the G-8 summit. President Bush or the other «democratic», did not wait long to respond to his Russian counterpart in another way in an interview with the Polish liberal newspaper, «Gazeta Fiborza», saying: «President Putin assures us that democracy is fine in his country, but we see that in a different way, as the case in Moscow’s relations with its neighbors», referring to the recent dispute between Russia and Estonia.

Will «Putin’s democracy» become a novel or new literary short story?! Will the Russian people come out to the streets in solidarity with own «democratic» President raising banners and echoing chants and slogans supporting him: Down with the «False American democracy»!?

Are we to imagine Russian marches roaming the streets of Moscow, that reflect the sincerity of Putin’s sayings and statements, to become a legend of the twenty-first century in time of «Globalization», the political and security degeneration, and the elephants clash, which will not produce genuine democracy, because half of the Western leaders resemble all leaders in the East, and the human being is the human being whether in the east, west, south, or North?

The Russian president is behind the country's economical improvement, and approaching the debts repayment, and perhaps thanks to the rise in oil prices, but his record in human rights is «not honorable» as it is believed so, as Amnesty International criticized «increasing» Russian pressure on human rights defenders and opponents of its policies, pointing out to the torture and intimidation had continued in this country in the year 2006, which witnessed the assassination of journalist Anna Politkovskaya. Also the «juristic» reports indicating that «summary executions, kidnappings, torture and arbitrary arrests continued in the North Caucasus, especially in Chechnya».

All what I fear is that some Arab leaders may believe what Putin had said about himself, and they will be affected by his «intelligence» conduct, which I mean the «democratic» one, and prison gates will reopen, to begin a new era that Putin dictated its scenarios on the grounds that there are no publicly known detention centers in his country and no torture in police stations; but all that is happening and approved, and it is under the mantle of «KGB».
