MOSCOW. Aug 17 (Interfax) - Over 50 army servicemen died by accident or crimes in Russia in July, says a report posted on the Defense Ministry's website on Thursday.
A total of 1,366 crimes or accidents claimed 52 lives, the report runs.
Suicides were responsible for the majority of deaths (19). The rate of accidental deaths dropped almost threefold, from 38 in June to 14 in July. Thirteen servicemen died in traffic accidents, and deliberate and unintended killings claimed five lives. Hazing caused one death.
Since the beginning of this year, 11,563 crimes and accidents have taken place in the armed forces and 313 people have died, the ministry said.
