MUSLIM countries should adopt a unified policy to tackle issues facing the Muslim world and expedite combined efforts in this direction, renowned scholar professor Dr Ali Mouhyee Din al-Qura Daghi has urged.
The scholar, who heads the University of Qatar (QU)’s Department of Jurisprudence, was delivering a lecture on ‘Genesis of Kashmir Issue’ at an event hosted by the Pakistan embassy on Thursday.
“Chechnya, Palestine and Kashmir issues are being ignored by the international community,” said Dr al-Qura Daghi, who stated that British imperialism left behind the Kashmir dispute that hinders Pakistan and India from moving forward to peace and development.
The speaker called upon India to solve the Kashmir issue.
“The Indian government should accept the UN resolutions and give Kashmiri people their right of self determination. We call on all Muslim countries and international community to support their stand,” he said.
Dr al-Qura Daghi expressed deep grief and sorrow over the heavy loss of life and property caused by the earthquake in Pakistan and ‘Pakistan-administered Kashmir’ while urging all Muslim countries to come out with all possible help to help and rehabilitate the affected people.
“Pakistan has always supported the Muslim cause and stood with Muslim countries. Now it is the duty of the Muslim world to help Pakistani people in their hour of need,” he said.
Pakistan embassy charge d’affaires Dr Imtiaz Kazi, in his concluding remarks, reaffirmed Pakistan’s diplomatic, political and moral support to the people of Kashmir.
Underlining Pakistan’s initiative to solve all issues including Kashmir through dialogue, he thanked Dr al-Qura Daghi for his support to Pakistan and the Kashmiri people.
Earlier, community welfare officer Akhtar Anwar Siddiqi welcomed the guests while highlighting the significance of the occasion.
The gathering also observed a two-minute silence to pay homage to the victims of the earthquake. The scholar also led prayers for the early recovery and rehabilitation of the tremor-hit people.
Embassy defence attachй Mohamed Zakaullah, Pakistan International Airlines manager Mohamed Shafiq, Doha Bank advisor Mohamed Atiq, Pakistan Engineers Forum president Shahid Anwar, QU professor Mumtaz Ahmed, representatives of Pakistani schools and heads of Pak socio-cultural organisations were among those present.
