On the crest of war
[passage omitted]
- How do you view the recent attack of fighters in Nalchik: could had been that attack be avoided by the Russian authorities?
- Putin's unwillingness to conduct negotiations with the moderate wing of Chechen separatists and in particular, the murder of Maskhadov, are transforming the Chechen war into a general Caucasian uprising. The results of this conflict, unfortunately, are very destructive not only for the inhabitants of Caucasian region, but also for the entire Russia.
- But there are indeed positive changes in the restoration of Chechnya: the parliamentary elections will take place there in Novemeber...
- The elections, which are carried out under the conditions of occupation will be never properly representative - be it Chechnya or Iraq. But at least in Iraq, on its future decides the society, that wasn't almost completely destroyed in its time. Unfortunately, the present state of Grozny, which by the way, shocked even president Putin, it's a straight evidence of that barbarity [zverstva] to what the Chechen resistance was subjected to it.
