" The Russian public " , which expresses its indignation exclusively on behalf of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Russia and with the lips of its representatives did not stand aside. The Russian diplomats did not start to tear their stripped vests as before, and have decided not to expose themselves once again in an idiotic position when they are indicated to the domination of the law. It si well-known, that freedom of MASS-MEDIA in the West is considered not end in itself, but the tool of service to a society and consequently it unconditionally can not agree with the statement of Moscow, despite of irritation of the Russian authorities.
Not long ago Russian mass media, replying the question of what kind achievement sould so-called " new Russia " be proud of, they were invariable pointing out to the unique, but universal - freedom of MASS-MEDIA. Now meetings are held in the Chechen Republic protesting against kidnapping, accomplishment of round-ups and searches done by occupational and puppet formations, but the Russian channels never show never.
Therefore the freedom of Russia 's MASS-MEDIA has been treated for a long time no more than, as verbiage and propaganda cliche. The enthusiasm concerning freedom wore out finally at the beginning of the second aggression accomplished by Russia against the Chechen Republic .
Journalists' mouthes were not shut up any more - they were simply kidnapped, and in some cases simply were killed. The most scandalous example of such behaviour of power structures of the Russian Federation became a case with Andrei Babitski who took interview of Basaev for the American company. As it is known, some years ago this correspondent of American radio station " Liberty " (RS) vanished without a trace in the territory of the Chechen Republic .
Nothing had been known about him for two weeks. Afterwards the representatives of an occupational regime informed, that he had been detained and accused of vagrancy - having found him in the area of operations without essential documents. This was a proative massage for all excessively curious journalists.
Then, not well-known Iastrjembski declared, that " Babitski is handed to the Chechen insurgents in exchange for two earlier kidnapped Russian soldier ", and the Russian TV had shown a videocassette with record of transfer of Babitski, on record he stands near to the unknown person in a mask at the crossing of roads in an unknown district. ( the remedial organization of Russia Fund " publicity " subsequently regarded this tape as a roughfalsification). In reply to spreading protests of the international community apprehending the destiny of the journalist, then the Russian authorities gave journalists rather inconsistent information about what actually had happened.
The Minister of Internal Affairs Vladimir Rushajlo of that time informed, that " the decision of officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Chechen Republic in connection with exchange of Babitski for two Russian soldiers was correct and justified ". Two days later commander Putin has added, without apparent irony, that officials of Russia do " everything dependent on them " for good safety and freedom of Babitski.
After these words staff reporter RS, unexpectedly appeared in the territory of Dagestan , and we should imagine, how the authority of FSB is today distressed, because several years ago it treated him so "indulgently". But at that time it did not make sense to kill Babitski, because, I repeated, kidnapping was arranged, as the demonstrative action for everyone who was going to try to break through the informational blackout around the Chechen Republic . But how many same sins we are commiting?
After a case with Babitski FSB forgot about conspiracy without a trace as it had believed in an absolute impunity. We shall remind, about the "strange" history which occurred in the Chechen Republic in January, 9, 2001 in the area of settlement Old Atagi with the representative of American charitable medical organization Kenneth Glak. At that time, the history of his kidnapping made many people to suggested an idea, that Glak had been kidnapped by the Russian special services though the Russian side had hurried to accuse mojaheds of it.
On the press conference in Saint Petersburg (April, 18, 2001) during the presence of Patrushev, Zdanovich let us know, that FSB was not interested in work on Glak in the Chechen Republic: " FSB, softly speaking, has the big doubts, that Kenneth Glak was actually the representative of the humanitarian organization ". " That is why the history of capture and release of Glak was so strange ", - added during one of the press conferences another security officer Zdanovich, who a little bit earlier had accused mojaheds of this kidnapping. It is difficult not to agree with him. When the same structure kidnaps and releases, it looks really strange.
