NatPress: Adygeya Capital’s Mayor Addressed To Townspeople With Open Letter

Adygeya capital’s mayor addressed to townspeople with open letter
16.2.2009

The head of Maykop administration Michael Chernichenko addressed on February, 11th to the citizens of the capital of Adygeya in an open letter in which he declared that he had nobody to be justified. He also expressed conviction that the court would confirm groundlessness of all the charges shown him for today.

The article was published in the newspaper “Maykop News”, the publication of the Administration and the Council of People's Deputies of the municipal formation "Town of Maykop". “The time has come to address to you publicly because I do not see any other opportunity to protect my reputation and the honour of my patrimonial surname”, - it was stated in it.

In the letter it was mentioned that against him a criminal proceeding under clause “abusing official powers” was instituted. “Today the case has not come to end, on the contrary, I have been persistently aspired to be discharged by decision of court from the post, as ostensibly I make some pressure upon the witnesses”, - the mayor explained.

However, as he remarked, it was not the truth at all. “It was me who had been pressed since the first day of my working on the post. As a result it I was given up in trust when I said that I was not going to interfere in realization of justice. They do not trust me, that means they do not trust everyone who had elected me”, - Michael Chernichenko concluded.

About those who, in his opinion, demonstrated such persistence, mayor held back. “However today I clearly see that all the efforts are being made to discredit my honour and my reputation for ever”, - he stated in one of the last paragraphs.

Let's note, from the end of November in Maykop there had been a series of the litigations of the town and the republican levels about Michael Chernichenko's temporary discharge from the mayor post taken place. Thus the town court rejected the requirement of the Office of Public Prosecutor (which acted the applicant), and the Supreme court returned the case for new consideration.

The last two sessions were lead in the court of the first instance on February, 6th and 9. At each of them the decision on postponing the date of the case’s consideration for later term was made. The reason of such postponing was underlined illness of the mayor and his hospitalization to the town hospital. The new date of the litigation appeared February, 24th.
