The situation in the peace-making forces control zone, prospects of settlement of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict and continuation of the peace-making operation was discussed on January 6th by the vice-president of Abkhazia Valery Arshba and the commander of the CIS Collective peace-making forces in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone general Alexander Evteev, agency "Apsnypress" informed.
The Abkhazian vice-president expressed hope that "the new leadership of Georgia, realizing all the hopelessness of the autonomous structures of the so-called "the Supreme body of Abkhazia" in Tbilisi, will not support the Georgian armed formations it sends to Gali area of Abkhazia".
General Evteev informed the vice-president that in Sukhum - in the peace-making forces command staff - they had got the official decision of the council of the CIS leading states that the CIS Collective peace-making forces in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone will stay there until one of the parties - participants of the conflict does not demand their evacuation.
"But it does not mean that if the one party demands the peacemakers’ moving out, they will have leave the conflict zone on the next day, - the general specified. According to Evteev, "in any case, the question will be discussed by the Council of the CIS states where decision about expediency of the staying of "the blue helmets" must be made.
"The main thing, - the general said, - is that the necessity of prolongation of the peacemakers’ mandate and the powers of the commander every half a year has disappeared; that had considerably stirred the peace-making activities".
Evteev named the situation in the safety zone normal now. "The soldiers - peacemakers serve in the usual mode", - the general stated.
