On August 4th, an officer of the Maykop motor-shooting brigade, the victim Maxim Basenko's funeral took place in Maykop on the town cemetery. He’d died in Abkhazia on a site of the highway Gagra-Gudauta two days earlier. The republican TV informed that. To say goodbye to the officer his relatives, friends, and colleagues came.
As IА REGNUM informed, on August 2nd on the entrance to Gudauta town an attempt of armed robbery of the bus of the CIS Peacemaking Collective forces in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone was committed. The bus transported a large sum of money (salaries) from Sochi to Sukhumi staff of the peace-making forces. The bus and the accompanying car were overtaken by a car, and people in it opened fire from automatic guns against vehicles of the military men. As a result of the firing the car with the Russian military men overturned in a ditch. Reciprocal fire from the bus stopped prosecution therefore malefactors disappeared from the place of the incident. Peacemakers in the overturned motor vehicle received heavy wounds; they were rendered with primary help. Then they by helicopter were delivered to Sochi where they subsequently died from the wounds.
The Peace-making battalion of the Maykop motor-shooting brigade (nearby 500 troopers) which structure included the lost officer, had been sent to Abkhazia on May, 29th this year, on the Peacemakers’ International day. Mission of the battalion was planned to stay in Abkhazia within a year. Through such "duty" method soldiers and officers of the brigade had served in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone since 1999.
