One policeman killed in militant attack in Chechnya
06/09/2009
GROZNY, September 6 (RIA Novosti) - One policeman was killed in an attack by an unidentified assailant in the capital of Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Chechnya, a local police spokesman said on Sunday.
A 25-year-old traffic policeman, Muslim Yusupov, was shot dead on Sunday morning at the entrance of his house after the militant fired four shots at the policeman and stole his Kalashnikov automatic rifle, the spokesman said.
Measures are under way to identify and apprehend the attacker, the spokesman said.
Russia's North Caucasus regions have seen a rise in violence in recent months. Attacks on police, officials and troops, and special operations against militants have been reported almost daily in Chechnya, Ingushetia and Dagestan.
