ROSTOV-ON-DON, Russia: A clash between security forces and gunmen who attacked a school and house in Chechnya killed one policeman and wounded four other officers, the regional Interior Ministry said Tuesday.

The ministry said the attack by about five gunmen took place overnight in Gukhoi, a village in the rugged mountains of the republic's south, where separatist rebel bands continue to elude Russian soldiers and police.

The attackers were armed with grenade launchers and automatic weapons, the ministry said. The gunmen were not apprehended.

Chechen Forces Attack in the South of Ichkeria

‘Kavkaz-Centre’ reports, citing http://www.qoqaz.com/ web-site, that the Chechen forces on 1st of September have carried out a number of successful combat operations in Kurchaloi, Nozhai-Yurt and Shali Districts of this country earlier this week.
