MOSCOW.  Aug  29  (Interfax-AVN) - A soldier of the Russian Defense
Ministry  was  wounded in a shooting near the town of Argun in Chechnya,
law enforcement agencies told Interfax on Wednesday.

"Unknown  people  opened  gunfire  on  a  convoy  of three vehicles
carrying  soldiers  of  a  unit  at  the  Russian  Defense  Ministry 1.5
kilometers  from Argun. A contract soldier was wounded in the shooting,"
law enforcement agencies said, adding that he has been hospitalized.

Arrests of Chechen residents connected with guerrillas continue

CHECHNYA – This month law enforcement agencies detained more than ten people who, according to investigators, gave all kinds of assistance to the guerrillas and were ready to join their units at any time.

One revealing example is that of two residents of the Groznensky district who helped their cousin, guerrilla commander Ramzan Saluyev. Both detainees, who were shown on local television, acknowledged that at Saluyev‘s request they purchased several mobile phones, SIM cards and a large quantity of top-up cards. Both say they did so out of fear of their lives.

Two other detainees from the same district are accused of more serious crimes. The case involves their participation in sabotage training that was given at a guerrilla base. This was also ...
