GROZNY. Aug 13 (Interfax) - An attempt of a group of armed men to abduct a policeman and a local civilian from the Chechen community of Znamenskoye was foiled on Friday.
Less than in an hour after police received information about the abduction, a task force encircled and then detained the abductors near the village of Goragorsky, a law enforcement source told Interfax on Saturday.
Among those detained were three policemen, two residents of the Chechen district center of Achkhoi-Martan and a resident of the Russian internal republic of Kalmykia.
None of the participants in the operation was hurt. However, a passerby was wounded and was taken to the hospital.
An investigation into the incident has been launched. va md

MOSCOW. Aug 10 (Interfax) - Russia's Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that 3,473 Russian troops had died and 32 had gone missing in Chechnya since Russia moved forces into the region in September 1999.
Fourteen troops died in Chechnya in July 2005 alone, 12 of them in combat, the ministry said on its website.
