ROSTOV-ON-DON, Russia (AP) - A drunken Russian soldier celebrating his
20th birthday while deployed in Chechnya opened fire after being
reprimanded, killing his commanding officer and wounding three other
servicemen, officials said July 19.

The private, who was not identified, was celebrating his birthday July
18 night at a military base in Shali. After a 32-year-old major told him
to stop drinking, the soldier grabbed an assault rifle and fired several
shots, the Chechen interior ministry said.

The private then tried to kill himself, and he was hospitalized with a
head wound, it said.

GROZNY, July 23 (Itar-Tass) - Five policemen have been wounded in a fire attack in Chechnya’s capital Grozny.

A police spokesman to ITAR-TASS that unknown attackers opened fire on a police patrol car late on Sunday.

The wounded policemen were hospitalized.

The search for the criminals is underway.

The Chechen Interior Ministry said a serviceman of the Forty Second Division of the Russian Defense Ministry got a mild injury at the blast of an explosive device near the settlement of Dekhiyste in Chechnya on Sunday.

KC's source in Chechnya reports that a group Mujahideen ambushed munafiqs from a Patrol-Guard Service and a group of armed gang from Kadyrov's OMON (rapid reaction police unit) in capital Jokhar on July 23.

Mujahideen fired on a UAZ jeep and on a patrol unit, which was on the street at that time.

According to the radio interception 10 munafiqs were seriously injured as a result of sabotage action. At least eight of them were taken to capital's hospital. The fate of the other two Kadyrovans is unknown.
