Having Previously Declared Victory, Kadyrov Wants Rebels Crushed in 2 Weeks

Publication: Eurasia Daily Monitor
June 18, 2009 01:18 PM

By: The Jamestown Foundation

President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov speaks to the press outside Grozny in Tsentoroy on April 16, 2009 about the end of the anti-terror operation.

Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov has claimed repeatedly over the last several years that the republic's rebels have all but been wiped out. However, since the counter-terrorist operation was officially ended in April, authorities in Chechnya and neighboring Ingushetia have had to launch a number of special counter-insurgency operations in the two republics. Still, there has been virtually no let up in rebel attacks in Ingushetia, Dagestan and Chechnya.

That may explain why Kadyrov yesterday ordered top Chechen Interior Ministry officials and the commanders of the republic's Special Forces units to wipe out Chechnya's rebels within the next two weeks and expressed unhappiness with the performance of the republic's ...

KC: Ringleader Of Apostates Is Nervous. He Demands To 'Finish Off' Mujahideen In 2 Weeks

Ringleader of apostates is nervous. He demands to 'finish off' Mujahideen in 2 weeks

Publication time: 18 June 2009, 20:31

Last Wednesday the ringleader of Chechen apostates Kadyrov convened his inner circle to a meeting and nervously demanded to "finish off" the Mujahideen in 2 weeks.

"I am giving you 2 weeks. In this period of time the militants in Chechnya must be eliminated", the ringleader of apostates demanded from his subordinates.

Kadyrov's ultimatum to his henchmen has been broadcasted on local puppet television channels.

According to the sources from Chechnya, Kadyrov's demands have been perceived by participants of the meeting as a demonstration of isolation from the reality and a misunderstanding of the real alignment of forces and the actual state of affairs.

Thus, the source of the "Caucasian knot", which commented to this edition the Kadyrov's statement, indicated:

"I have spoken with several of those who involved in the large-scale operations against the militants. According to ...

RFE/RL: Moderate Leader's Death Accelerated Transformation Of Chechen Resistance

Moderate Leader's Death Accelerated Transformation Of Chechen Resistance

by Liz Fuller

The death three years ago today of Chechen Republic Ichkeria (ChRI) President and resistance commander Abdul-Khalim Sadullayev was a milestone in the evolution of what emerged in 1994 as an almost exclusively Chechen fight for independence into a pan-Caucasian, multinational Islamic resistance movement.

Although he occupied the post of president for just 15 months, Sadullayev succeeded in formalizing the organizational and logistical framework to expand the war into other North Caucasus republics, while at the same time banning hostage takings and terrorist attacks on civilian targets. But whether wittingly or under pressure from more radical and pragmatic figures within the resistance, he also dismissed the predominantly secular ChRI government and parliament in exile, and established in January 2006 an advisory Council of Alims (Muslim scholars) of Peoples of the Caucasus.

Those moves strengthened the radicals, including veteran ideologue Movladi Udugov, who even ...

CK: Khalidov Who Returned To Chechnya Renounces His Former Charges Against Kadyrov Of Preparing Murders Abroad

Khalidov who returned to Chechnya renounces his former charges against Kadyrov of preparing murders abroad

jun 17 2009, 23:40

Ruslan Khalidov has come back from Norway to Chechnya; earlier he accused President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov of organizing murders of his political opponents. In particular, Khalidov asserted that Kadyrov had personally instructed him to liquidate Magomed Ocherkhadzhi, leader of the Chechen Diaspora in Norway. Now Khalidov has returned to Chechnya and publicly refuted all his former statements.

In March this year Khalidov asserted that he was forced to commit a murder of Ocherkhadzhi by threats of physical execution of himself and his family. Moreover, Khalidov had told that Shaa Turlaev, former security boss of Aslan Maskhadov, former President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, who passed over some years ago into Ramzan Kadyrov's retinue, was his uncle and possessed his own prison in the city of Gudermes, where kidnapped militants' relatives were tortured.
