Chechnya habitat ravaged by war

Environmental agencies have warned that the republic of Chechnya, devastated by war over the past 11 years, now faces ecological disaster.

They say unregulated development, and fighting between separatists and the Russian army, has destroyed Chechnya's rich natural habitat.

Rivers are badly affected, with widespread oil spills and pollution from sewers damaged by war.

There are also concerns over the impact of illegal logging in Chechen forests.

The World Wildlife Fund said illegal logging is destroying the republic's dense mountain forests.

Forest guards have died in areas around the capital, Grozny, because of large numbers of land mines, officials said.

"Environmental monitoring in Chechnya, especially in the rivers and other bodies of water, shows their terrible state, particularly due to leaking oil pipelines and a sewerage system that has not worked for years," a state environment official told ...

Two servicemen wounded in blast in Chechnya

MOSCOW. June 25 (Interfax) - Two Defense Ministry servicemen - the commander of a reconnaissance group and a contract serviceman -suffered injuries, when an unidentified explosive device blew up near the village of Tazen-Kale in Chechnya's Vedeno district.

The explosion occurred at about 10 a.m. on Saturday, in a wooded area where the group was carrying out a search and reconnaissance mission, a source in the local authorities told Interfax by phone on Sunday.

The wounded servicemen were hospitalized. sd

Five Russian Kafirs Eliminated in Jokhar

Five Russian kafirs (infidels) from so called death squadrons have been gunned down in a diversion operation by Chechen fighters in central Jokhar, capital of Chechnya, report Kavkaz Center sources in Chechnya.

All the five Russians were GRU (Russian army intelligence) officers and had been hunted for by Chechen fighters. The eliminated Russian squad took part in kidnappings and extremely cruel murders of  CRI citizens. The kafir extermination operation was carried out by a Special Operations Unit responsible for the area where the Russian killers' gang committed its crimes.

Car explodes in Grozny - interior ministry

GROZNY. June 27 (Interfax) - A UAZ vehicle exploded at 4.30 p.m. on Mayakovsky Street in Grozny's Leninsky district, the Chechen Interior Ministry told Interfax.

Several people suffered in the explosion. The car caught fire, and fire brigades are in place to put it out.

There is no detailed information on the owner of the vehicle and the number of victims.

39 kafirs and munafiqs eliminated, injured in Jokhar and Southern Chechnya

On June 25 to 27, mobile groups and units of Chechen Mujahideen eliminated 19 and wounded about 30 Russian kafirs (infidels) and munafiqs (traitors) in military operations, reports a representative of Military Council of the CRI Majlisul Shura State Defense Council.

Firefights happened in districts of Vedeno, Itum-Kali, Nojay-Yurt and Kurchaloi. In districts of Shelkovo, Shali, Shatoi and in the Chechen capital of Jokhar, sabotage operations were carried out, reports the Chechen source.

Four Mujahideen martyred in clashes with Russian invaders and their puppets, said the Chechen source.

Mujahideen were most active in the Chechen capital. Earlier, Chechen fighters attacked mainly at nighttime. At present, they increased their attacks during the daytime, emphasized the representative of the Chechen Command.
