Memorial: Growing Number of Young Chechens Joining Rebels

The Memorial human rights group says that pressure by law enforcement bodies in Chechnya on youth in the republic has only increased since Russian President Dmitry Medvedev officially announced an end to the ten-year-long counter-terrorist operation in the republic last month, and that this pressure is driving more and more young Chechens to join the rebels.

Kavkazky Uzel on May 20 quoted Memorial as saying that Anzor Bashaev, a young resident of the village of Shalazhi in Chechnya’s Achkhoi-Martan district, disappeared from his home on May 7 and has not returned since. According to the human rights group, two days before his disappearance, Bashaev had been detained and severely beaten by security forces. Bashaev said he had been detained in ...

Ringleader of apostates announced 'large scale operation' against '70 militants'

Publication time: 17 May 2009, 11:26

Russian sources by referring to the ringleader of Chechen apostates Kadyrov reported on Saturday about the beginning of so-called "large scale operation" against the Mujahideen.

The puppet ringleader has threatened to kill parents of the Mujahideen, their relatives, and friends. He also declared that he would no longer ask Moscow for "amnesty for militants".

Speaking earlier at the mosque, Kadyrov swore at the Mujahideen, calling obscene words, and almost after every swearing word swore by Allah that he would kill all those who have "at least some connection to the Wahhabis".

In doing so, the ringleader of the apostates particularly stressed that "only within Russia, Islam can prosper in Chechnya".

Russian sources have reported that "all the mountainous regions of Chechnya are divided into sectors and responsible are appointed".

"We know that they are ...

Four police die in Chechnya blast

- Search: Chechyna police suicide blast

A suicide bomber has killed four police officers and wounded a further five people in the provincial capital of Chechnya.

Russia's interior ministry said the attacker detonated explosives outside its main headquarters in Grozny.

Last month, the Kremlin formally ended a federal counterterrorism operation in Chechnya, which has experienced two bloody separatist wars in the past 15 years.

But insurgents continue to stage frequent attacks on troops and authorities in the region despite increased stability under Kremlin-backed regional President Ramzan Kadyrov.

Mr Kadyrov praised the policemen who died, saying their courage helped prevent higher casualties. He sought to downplay the attack and insisted that it wouldn't disrupt efforts to stabilise the region.

"The incident had no impact on the situation in Grozny," Mr Kadyrov said. "The situation in the capital and on the entire territory of the republic ...

Ringleader of apostates threatens terror against relatives of Mujahideen

Publication time: 16 May 2009, 11:04

After Friday's explosion in downtown of Chechen capital, organized by a Shaheed, the ringleader of Chechen apostates Ramzan Kadyrov made an emotional statement and promised massacre over relatives, saying that "parents also bear responsibility for their choice".

"I know that parents see and call up their sons and wish them blessings. Such parents should understand for themselves that their sons bring grief and suffering to the people. Nobody would stand it anymore", the apostate threatened.

We would like to indicate thereupon that the information on attack of the Shaheed in Jokhar is still very scanty. The invaders and their puppets report very limited information.

It is established that last Friday afternoon at 11 o'clock, the Shaheed attacked a building of a puppet gang of "Ministry of Internal Affairs".

The apostates claim only 2 puppet policemen killed. However the eyewitnesses told about ...

Chechen Prez praises police actions in attack near Interior Ministry
Moscow | Friday, May 15 2009 IST

Chechnya's President Ramzan Kadyrov has highly praised the police actions in the suicide bomber attack today near the Interior Ministry in the Chechen capital Grozny in which two security officers were killed three others injured.

''The terrorists have underestimated the courage, professionalism and the capacity to act decisively in extreme situations shown by police officers, who frustrated terrorists' plans by sacrificing their lives,'' Mr Kadyrov told media persons.

''A decision has been made to confer state decorations upon the deceased officers,'' he said, adding the terrorists had planned to spread terror amongst the Chechen population.

According to the preliminary investigation, a suicide bomber set off an explosive device 500 meters from the Chechen Interior Ministry in central Grozny.

Militant attacks have intensified in Chechnya since the official lifting last month of the Kremlin's decade-long anti-terrorist campaign in the North ...
