KC: The War Cancelled, The War Continues

posted by eagle on April, 2009 as War in Chechnya

The war cancelled, the war continues

Publication time: 21 April 2009, 23:50

On Tuesday, Russian sources made a sudden recognition that, despite the official "cancellation" of war, military actions in Chechnya continues.

Russian media referring to the occupation command reported about new operation against the Mujahideen in the mountains of Vedeno and Itum-Kali districts of Chechnya.

Kavkaz Center's source reported that intense fighting have been taking place for several days in the mountainous regions of the Province of Nokhchiycho (Ichkeria/Chechnya) of the Caucasus Emirate.

Meanwhile, the Russian sources reported that "the operation started on the morning of April 20". Thus, the occupational command admits the Mujahideen in mountain areas of Ichkeria operate with same intensity; they enter settlements, delivering blows, carrying out sabotage raids.

Despite the fact that the puppet regime in Chechnya has declared the "cancellation" of war "a triumph of Putin's policy", the occupation command is more carefully in its estimations.

The Russian mass-media reported ...

CK: In Chechnya, Two Districts Are Under The CTO Regime

In Chechnya, two Districts are under the CTO regime

apr 21 2009, 22:40

Since April 20, in the south of Chechnya, in the Itum-Kalin and Vedeno Districts, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was announced. Some local observers believe that these could be power agents' response actions to the Kremlin's decision to cancel the CTO regime that had survived in Chechnya for more than nine years.

"Since yesterday, a part of the territory of the Itum-Kalin and Vedeno Districts of the Chechen Republic are under the CTO regime. The reason is that recently active participants of bandit formations were noticed in these regions, there are cases of appearance of small groups of militants in dwelling settlements; there is also information available in special agencies that bandits plan to penetrate into the plain area of the republic and the city of Grozny for committing terror acts," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the Military ...

April 21, 2009
GROZNY -- Chechen authorities have launched special operations to locate what they say are hundreds of resistance fighters in the mountainous Vedeno region of the southern Russian republic, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Local law enforcement officials told RFE/RL that some 500 rebels, led by the self-proclaimed leader of a "Caucasus Emirate," Doka Umarov, are still active in the Itum-Kala and Vedeno districts.

Police say they are stopping and searching all vehicles and individuals they encounter in the area.

RFE/RL's Russian Service quoted local authorities as saying that two hideouts with weapons and ammunition, as well as two vacated rebel camps, have already been discovered.

The operation comes less than a month after officials in Moscow said major combat operations by the Russian army were over in the war-fraught republic.

Some observers have warned that Chechnya's Kremlin-backed president, ...

Prague Watchdog: "All That Is Happening Today Is A Mirage" (Interview With A Chechen Insurgent)

"All that is happening today is a mirage" (interview with a Chechen insurgent)

With the ending of Russia’s counter-terrorist operation, the question of the fighting capability, numbers, strategy, tactics and ideology of the armed insurgency in Chechnya is becoming increasingly topical. The Chechen leadership claims that by relying solely on its own forces it is in a position to maintain internal order in the republic. It says that it needs no additional federal units in order to deal with the insurgents, even though those units bore the main burden of responsibility for combating them.

If this is indeed the way things are going, does it mean that the resistance is a small marginal sect of religious fanatics, acting against the will of the majority, as the Russian authorities claim? Or is it that, like the Bolsheviks in their day, Ramzan Kadyrov has simply managed to establish an ...
