On that same day unknown persons opened fire on a car carrying officers of the Chechen Interior Ministry in Grozny's Leninsky district. Two policemen were killed as a result; the attackers escaped. GROZNY/MAKHACHKALA. April 20 (Interfax) - Two soldiers, were injured by landmines on Tuesday, a local law enforcement source told Interfax by phone on Wednesday.
"A Defense Ministry serviceman sustained injuries as a result of a landmine explosion in the village of Tazen in the Vedeno district early [Tuesday] morning. Another soldier, who is serving in Chechnya under contract, was injured by an explosion that occurred in the same village three hours later," the source said.

At around 11pm several grenades exploded on the base’s territory, fired from an underbarrel grenade launcher in the street. After the policemen opened answering fire, the attackers, of whom there were probably three, disappeared. On examination of the place from which the firing came, discovery was made of a Niva jeep which had been abandoned by the attackers, and OMON personnel took it back to the base.
