Vienna, March 9 – Most Moscow commentators blame the recent upsurge in the killings of women in Chechnya on the revival of customary law (adat) or the imposition of Islamic law (shariat), but a new analysis suggests that the real explanation lies elsewhere in the dislocations caused by the military conflict there over the last 15 years. On the one hand, independent Chechen journalist Salakh Kasayev says, this tendency to blame Islam reflects the “clash of civilizations” argumentation many people find persuasive especially when they focus, because of ignorance or some other reason, on Muslim doctrines rather than Chechen practice (www.caucasustimes.com/article.asp?id=19562). Ichkeria Province: Militia patrol blown up in capital Jokhar

A patrol belonging to the DPS [Road Patrol Service] of the puppet Interior Ministry was blown up with a radio-controlled contact mine in the Yandarbiyev (formerly Oktyabr) district of capital Jokhar, Caucasus Emirate's Nokhchicho (Chechnya/Ichkeria) Province.
According to occupation sources the mine explosion took place yesterday, March 4 at about 10.20 p.m. on the curb of the road near the house No. 69 on Sayhanov Street, while a DPS patrol of the puppet IM consisting of 5 men was passing by the house.
One member of the puppet militia suffered shrapnel injuries in the explosion and was hospitalized. It was also reported that the explosion damaged a GAZelle car parked near the house.
The force of the explosion was such that it created a 30 cm deep, funnel-shaped hole of 1 m in diameter.
