Russia denies involvement of its militaries in death of schoolchildren in Chechnya

Russia does not admit involvement of state officials in the death of two pupils from a shell in Chechnya in 2000. The Strasbourg Court (ECtHR) is accusing the Russian Federation of inefficient investigation of this case.

Russia, as explained by a human rights defender, who knows the details of considering the case in Strasbourg, denied any involvement of state officials in the death of the boys.

According to the expert, the state also said that "it will be possible to state any involvement of public servants in the death of schoolchildren only after the end of the investigation, during which all the circumstances of what happened should be established."

Chechnya informs of Khusayn Gakaev's visit to the village of Elistanji. According to Ichkerian citizens, Khusayn Gakaev had over 80 personal body guards who provided him save visit to Elistanji.

Russia to pay $2.2 million for Chechnya deaths

STRASBOURG  (December 03, 2010) : The European Court of Human Rights on Thursday ordered Moscow to pay 1.72 million euros (2.2 million dollars) in compensation for the death of 24 Chechens in a 2000 bombing of their village by Russian forces. The victims, most of whom had sought refuge in caves, were killed when the Russian army bombarded the village of Katyr-Yurt in a bid to stop the breakout of Chechen separatist forces from Grozny in February 2000.

The Strasbourg-based court awarded a total 1.72 million euros to the 29 plaintiffs in the case, who are each to receive sums ranging from 30,000 to 120,000 euros for moral damage. Russia can appeal the decision within three months.
