Chechen Mujahideen armed with grenade launchers, machine- , and submachine guns ambushed and attacked a Russian military convoy on a road to the district center of Shatoi on Sunday, December  10, 2006, according to a report from the Chechen Military Command for the Kavkaz Center news agency.
 
As the result of the firefight that lasted for approximately 30 minutes, at least 4 Russian troops were killed and 7 others were wounded. The Russian casualties are probably higher. A Russian armored personnel carrier was also disabled. There were no losses among the Mujahideen. No further details on the operation were mentioned in the report.

Qoqaz News, the Arabic website of the Chechen jihad, announced on Saturday, December 9, 2006, that Commander Muhannad assumed the leadership of the Arab Mujahideen in Chechnya following the death of its previous commander, Abu Hafs al-Urduni. Recently the Associated Press stated reporting all kind of minor incidents around the Russian-Chechen War taken and translated from Russian news reports. For example, the AP sent the following dispatch from Russia on Wednesday, December 13, 2006:

"ROSTOV-ON-DON, Russia: A soldier committed suicide in war-scarred Chechnya, and another serviceman deserted in a neighboring troubled southern province, officials said Wednesday.

A contract soldier serving outside Chechnya's capital, Grozny, fired a shot into his head and died Tuesday, regional police officials said in a statement. An investigation has been launched.

Also Tuesday, in the province of Ingushetia, which lies west of Chechnya, a border guard deserted his post carrying two Kalashnikov rifles, and law enforcement bodies have begun a manhunt.

According to a report from a Kavkaz Center correspondent in Dagestan, Russian invaders took hostage a 54-year-old woman and a young girl, the wife of the martyred (Shaheed, insha Allah) Amir Abu Hafs. The women were taken by Russian kidnappers to the Russian military base in Khankala in Chechnya. Their fate is unknown. Invaders and their local puppets refused to give any information about the incident.

According to a report from the Chechen Military Command, Chechen Mujahideen ambushed and attacked Russian troops 2 km from the village of Eshelkhatoi in the Vedeno distrist of Chechnya onTuesday, December 12, 2006, killing 4 Russian infidels. The Mujahideen suffered no casualties. No further details about the operation were reported.

Russian artillery pounded the forest-covered mountain area south of the Eshelkhatoi village on December 12-13, 2006.
