3 Russian Troops Killed, Checkpoint Captured in Caucasus

According to a report from the Chechen Military Command, a reconnaissance group of Mujahiden discovered a Russian mercenaries' unit in a forest-covered area 1.5 km from the village of Elistanji on December 7, 2006. The Mujahideen attacked the enemy and killed 3 Russians in a short firefight. Several invaders were also left wounded but their precise number is unknown.
After the firefight, Russian artillery and war helicopters pounded for 4 hours the forest-covered area where the firefight had happened. There were no losses among the Mujahideen.
Meanwhile, according to Russian news reports, a group of Mujahideen attacked a checkpoint manned by Ingush apostates. The apostates made no resistance and were left alive. The Mujahideen seized their submachine guns, pistols, heavy machine guns and ammunition.

Chechen Mujahideen attacked a Russian military convoy late Sunday, December 10, 2006, in the Shatoi district, about 30 miles to the south of the Chechen capital, Jokhar, while the Russians "were conducting a reconnaissance mission in a forested area" according to a Russian news report. The Russians claimed, as usual, that only one their soldier had been wounded in the action.
