Six wounded in Chechnya

Six riot police officers of the North Caucasus Department of Internal Affairs in Transport were wounded in the capital of Chechnya last night.

The policemen with gunshot wounds were admitted to hospital and received medical aid, Chechnya's Internal Affairs Ministry told RIA Novosti. The agency's interlocutor remarked that the circumstances of the incident had not been established by that time yet.

Bers Gelagayev was playing with friends on a sunny summer day when an unusual piece of scrap metal caught his attention.

"I asked my friend to give it to me, and I ran to my neighbors' house to show it to them. But it exploded in my hands. I was carrying a shell," Bers, who was 10 at the time, said by telephone from Grozny.

Bers lost his left arm in the explosion five years ago in Karpinka, a small village just southwest of Grozny.

A statement was recently issued from the Military Consultation Commission to the Arabic website of the Chechen jihad, announces the death of Abu Omar al-Seif, AKA Muhammad bin Abdulllah bin Seifal-Jaber al-Buayneen al-Tamimi, one of the prominent leaders of jihad in Chechnya and the “only source of knowledge and Shari’a for the Chechen mujahideen.” The message indicates that al-Seif was killed during a confrontation with Russian soldiers, referred to as “Allah’s enemies,” after spending more than ten years on Chechen land. Further, the statement offers words of praise to Abu Omar al-Seif and prays that Allah accept him as a martyr.

Russian soldiers refuse to admit shelling village of Chechen-Aul

CHECHNYA - In Chechnya an investigation is continuing into a long-range shelling of the village of Chechen-Aul, located in the Groznensky district.

The investigation of the incident, which occurred on the night of December 16, is being dealt with by an investigative team of the military prosecutor's office. As a result of the shelling three private houses in this populated area were partially destroyed.
